Surgical Technician

Job Title: O.R. Technician (CST) – Contract Location: New York, NY 10029 Job Type: Contract Contract Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours: 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours/day, Monday–Friday) Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Pay : $60 to $62 (hourly) Key Responsibilities: Perform scrub technician duties in accordance with established operating room guidelines and aseptic technique. Apply principles of sterile technique, including surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving. Prepare and maintain sterile instrument tables, equipment, and supplies based on surgical procedures. Assist surgeons by anticipating and providing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies throughout procedures. Assist with patient draping, positioning, and transfer using approved perioperative equipment. Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse; report discrepancies per policy. Monitor the sterile field continuously and take corrective action in the event of contamination. Assist with specimen handling, labeling, and disposition in accordance with hospital policy. Support circulating nurse duties, including room setup, equipment preparation, and patient safety measures. Assist with preparation and labeling of medications on the sterile field under direct RN supervision. Communicate medication name, concentration, dosage, and route clearly during surgical procedures. Assist with post-procedure room cleanup, equipment decontamination, and preparation for subsequent cases. Support operational needs such as patient transport, inventory level notifications, and preference card updates. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (required). Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Training Program (required). Active CST Certification (required). Minimum of 2 years of Surgical Technician experience (required). CVOR experience required (must have). Prior operating room experience strongly preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment. Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform operating room duties. Commitment to patient safety, aseptic technique, and high-quality surgical care.
