Continuous Extruder Floater Operates and monitors the extrusion and pugging processes, which are integral procedures in the manufacturing of dried, formed products. Those products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, in which ceramic products are produced that meet the required specifications & quality standards. Completes the GHCM (Green Honeycomb Cutting Machine) set-up; checks/resets the batch, work count, and total count settings located on the GHCM control panel; and records the settings on the Extrusion Activities Log Sheet. Adjusts cradle kicker, cradle supply, first transfer and cradle feeder settings; and confirms the adjustments by visual verification of proper operations; performs the die holder assembly procedures according to established instructions. Performs the power-up/start-up procedures according to approved instructions. Operates, monitors and adjusts the extrusion process; observes, detects and reacts to visual defects in the extruded product and takes the appropriate counter-measures as described in the Process Adjustment Plan. Obtains weight samples at the beginning of each travel ticket; marks the weight on the product; marks the weight on the travel ticket; and inputs the information at the APICS (ACU Product Information Control System) terminal. Removes and cleans machine components such as dies, masking plates, spacers, etc.; enters process data into the SPC (Statistical Process Control) software; maintains the extruder information board with data gathered from the die travel ticket and from the actual tooling in use. Removes and tags any formed material exhibiting contamination; and moves material to the confinement area; collects aomodori into designated totes, following established procedures for collecting, packing and palletizing. Performs necessary change-over procedures according to established work instructions; records all die adjustments during a production run onto the Die Adjustment Sheet. Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists. Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Required Education and/or Experience: 1. Must be able to successfully complete all required job training. 2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 3. 6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent. 4. CRC Bronze or above. Ability to read and comprehend work instructions. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Certified Production Technician program completion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands or arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee is required to have 20/20 vision (natural or corrected vision). The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property. Safety glasses or goggles may be required while performing certain job duties. Task appropriate gloves may be required while performing certain job duties.
