The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing an organization's payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time by calculating salaries, withholding taxes, and processing deductions, while maintaining compliance with all relevant tax and labor laws, typically requiring strong attention to detail, knowledge of payroll software, and excellent communication skills to address employee inquiries related to paychecks and deductions. Payroll processing: Reviewing employee pay based on hours worked, including overtime, commissions, and bonuses, appropriate deductions like taxes, health insurance, and retirement contributions. Data entry: Entering employee time and attendance data into the payroll system when needed. Tax compliance: Ensuring accurate withholding of federal, state, and local taxes according to regulations. Recordkeeping: Maintaining detailed payroll records, including employee earnings, deductions, and tax information. Benefit administration: Processing payroll deductions for employee benefits like health insurance and retirement plans. Compliance audits: Reviewing payroll data for accuracy and compliance with labor laws. Employee inquiries: Answering questions from employees regarding their paystubs, deductions, and payroll issues. Reporting: Generating payroll reports for management and accounting purposes. System maintenance: Staying updated with payroll software updates and ensuring the system functions properly.
