Lifeguard at the Aquatics Center Dive into an exciting role as a Lifeguard at Kirby Creek Natatorium! You'll play a crucial role in ensuring our guests' safety by monitoring the water, enforcing pool rules, and providing top-notch customer service. Beyond lifeguarding, you'll help maintain water quality, assist with special events, and create a welcoming environment for all. If you have a passion for safety and teamwork, apply now to make a difference! This position has responsibilities that require lifting up to 50-100 pounds on occasion. Scanning the water to monitor activities; informing customers of upcoming events and answering inquiries. Ensuring the safety of the general public by enforcing pool rules and regulations; monitoring activities and providing assistance when necessary. Preparing facilities for special events by setting up tables and chairs and decorating. Regular and dependable attendance is required. Monitoring activities in and near the water through patron surveillance. Preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Enforcing facility rules and regulations and educating patrons about them. Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to all emergencies. Administering first aid and CPR, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED) when needed. Working as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management. Assist patrons by performing safety orientations, administering swim tests, fitting life jackets and other duties. Performing opening duties, closing duties, or facility safety checks and inspections. All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division. Minimum qualifications: Education: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency. Experience: No experience required. Licenses: None. Certifications Required: Lifeguarding, CPR, First AidTraining will be providedSwim Abilities: The prerequisite swimming skills evaluation is designed to confirm that participants have the physical ability to successfully participate in the training. The evaluation includes an endurance swim, treading water using only the legs and a timed event that involves retrieving a 10-pound submerged object, swimming it back to the exit point, and exiting the water without using a ladder or steps. For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided: Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system. Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits. Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
