Set-Up Crew Leader Most people are familiar with the Seattle Convention Center (SCC) because we host a large variety of meetings, events, and conventions. That is the primary role we play the Center provides a venue in which people gather from around the region, the nation and the world to share ideas, celebrate and learn. This will be even more evident as we scale our operations to support two buildings, Arch and Summit, in the vibrant core of downtown Seattle. As a Set-Up crew leader, you will supervise and provide effective leadership for crews, particularly during set-up and conversion activities within the SCC facility. They supervise both Set-Up Leads and other non-supervisory operations staff who perform event set-up, maintenance, and related functions to ensure the facility's proper presentation to clients and staff. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager, they work closely with Event Services and Food Services to coordinate set-up needs. They work with custodial crew chiefs to address regular and special janitorial maintenance of the facility. Performs set-up functions while monitoring progress, safety, completeness, and cleaning/disinfection of the sets. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. At the direction of the Operations Supervisor and/or Operations Manager, develop and implement standards or custom room sets as requested by the client Set-Up Crew Chief position is expected to lead by example out on the exhibition floors, meeting rooms and throughout the facility Accurately interpret drawings and be able to transform them into the desired room set, utilizing a basic understanding of geometry and linear scale Ensure that all room sets are accurately completed by performing continuous inspections of sets during work shifts Perform set-up functions to include set up, tear down tables, chairs, risers and related equipment in meeting rooms and exhibit spaces. Perform maintenance functions for tradeshows, assign maintenance tasks, including general restroom assignments during tradeshows. Drive SCC industrial cleaning equipment, forklift, pallet jack, and Pac Mule electric industrial cart Assist the Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager in training the set-up staff Provide clear, concise directions both verbally and written to the assigned crews Respond to multiple and sometimes pressure situations and function in an efficient, calm manner, using sound judgement, in all situations Provide necessary supervision to the Set-Up Attendants and on-call Set-Up Attendants. Track attendance in the "Crew Call" book when requested by Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager. Assign reporting employees to tasks and schedule breaks as needed. Authorize discrepancy and overtime forms as required When appropriate, within SCC operating guidelines, take disciplinary action with staff to ensure a controlled work environment. Immediately communicate all disciplinary action taken to the Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager in both a written format and verbally. Provide factual information and recommendations to the Operations Supervisor related to disciplinary action Provide initial and on-the-job instruction to full-time and "on-call" staff in the set-up/conversion of the interior spaces of the facility. Assist in developing formal training for the Operations department. Inform and provide on-going enforcement of correct safety and health procedures Perform all assignments with attention to the safe operation of equipment and supplies Immediately complete an incident/accident report for all such occurrences and convey details to the Operations Supervisor within 24 hours. Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification from an approved certifying organization Perform miscellaneous related duties as directed by the Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and the Operation Supervisor Perform all duties as a team member, in a professional productive manner, in accordance with the Quality Service Plan (QSP) to ensure the successful operation of the SCC. Comply with the Convention Center's mission and all standards, procedures and established programs and ensure compliance by department staff This job has supervisory responsibilities for a crew of other Set-Up Attendants and/or on-call Set-Up attendants during a shift. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, for limited periods of time or in specific locations, the noise level may be loud. The employee must be able to work shifts that may be during the day, night, weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
