Administrative Support Technician (Office Automation) The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force & Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD & the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining & processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces. This is a permanent position. This job is open to current federal employees whose agencies follow the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's hiring rules and pay scales. Federal employees whose job, agency or department was eliminated and are eligible for priority over other applicants. Current or former employees of a base management agency. Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces or a spouse, widow, widower or parent of a veteran, who may be eligible for derived preference Military spouses of active duty service members or whose spouse is 100 percent disabled or died on active duty. Individuals who are eligible under Schedule A. As an Administrative Support Technician (Office Automation), you will: Provide staff with guidance on how to properly operate within office procedures. Maintain calendars for staff. Maintain a suspense log for all actions in accordance to office procedures. Prepare Request for Personnel Actions for submission using automated systems. Maintain office files, including personnel files on military and civilian employees, IAW regulatory guidance. Serve as timekeeper providing advice to supervisors on time and leave procedures. Review documents prepared for Commander's signature ensuring compliance with regulations. Screen telephone calls and visitors to refer/direct customers to appropriate staff/office. Process mail to include distribution to appropriate staff members and post office. Create a variety of reports for submission to higher headquarters using a variety of office software packages. Assist newly assigned personnel in in processing and completing required forms. Communicate with Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) to determine status of personnel actions. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which includes: Providing clerical support (i.e., screening telephone calls/visitors, maintaining office calendars, maintaining records or files, etc.) for the office; Preparing correspondence for the office staff; Utilizing office automation software to prepare various types of documents (i.e., spreadsheets, reports, graphs, charts, statistical data, etc.); Assisting with onboarding process of military and/or civilian personnel by gathering required documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education Substitution: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration; Business Management, Communications; or Office Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). OR Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Typing Proficiency : This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
