Lead Veterinary Technician – Special Surgery & Dentistry Full-Time | $52,000 – $75,800 annually + benefits About Wisconsin Community Veterinary Center (WCVC) Wisconsin Community Veterinary Center (WCVC) is a nonprofit veterinary clinic committed to providing high-quality, accessible veterinary care to pets and families regardless of income. We practice spectrum-of-care medicine and emphasize collaboration, education, and continuous improvement while maintaining high medical and ethical standards. Position Overview The Lead Veterinary Technician – Special Surgery & Dentistry provides advanced clinical care while supporting the daily operations of WCVC’s dental and special surgery services. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with clinical leadership, working closely with veterinarians, clinic leadership, and department coordinators to ensure exceptional patient care, efficiency, and adherence to medical protocols. This position is approximately 70% clinical work and 30% leadership/administrative responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Clinical & Technical Responsibilities Provide direct hands-on patient care for dental and special surgical procedures Assist veterinarians during advanced dental procedures, including extractions, complex soft tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries Administer and monitor anesthesia; continuously monitor vital signs and patient status before, during, and after procedures Manage pain control protocols and ensure appropriate post-operative recovery and monitoring Deliver clear, compassionate communication to clients regarding procedures and aftercare Support high standards of cleanliness, organization, and patient safety in surgical and dental areas Leadership & Operational Responsibilities Support development and implementation of SOPs for dental and special surgical services in collaboration with clinic leadership Assist with training, mentorship, and clinical guidance for technicians and assistants within the department Contribute to performance feedback and skill development in partnership with supervisors Ensure compliance with applicable medical regulations and safety standards (including OSHA and DEA requirements) Oversee departmental equipment needs, including maintenance coordination and replacement planning Maintain accurate and complete medical, training, and departmental records Required Qualifications Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) licensed in Wisconsin or eligible for licensure Minimum 4 years of veterinary technician experience, including anesthesia and surgical support Demonstrated proficiency in dentistry, anesthesia monitoring, and perioperative patient care Strong organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with clinic leadership Preferred Qualifications Leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience in a veterinary setting Experience in shelter medicine, high-volume spay/neuter, or pediatric surgeries (or willingness to learn) Commitment to access-to-care and incremental care models Experience working with diverse client populations Ideal Candidate Attributes Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail Calm, professional demeanor under pressure Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and schedules Organized, reliable, and solution-oriented Passion for continued learning and professional development Benefits Health Insurance: Employer pays 75% of individual premium (eligible after 60 days) Paid Time Off: 10 days PTO annually after 90 days 5 personal days annually after 90 days 6 paid holidays (8 hours each) Retirement: 401(k) with pre-tax contributions after one year Professional Development: $250 annual CE allowance RECOVER CPR (Basic & Advanced Life Support – 16 CE hours) Fear Free Certification (7 CE hours) Wisconsin CVT license reimbursement (100%) Dental Insurance: Employee pays 50% (eligible after 90 days) Uniform Allowance: $200 first year; $100 annually thereafter Employee Discounts: 40% off veterinary care for personal pets 20% off adoption fees Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 1 - 3 years Salary: $52,000 - $72,800 Annual Bonus/Commission: No
