????? Metal Shop QC Inspector Job Description ???? Position Summary The Metal Shop QC Inspector is responsible for inspecting raw materials, in?process fabrication, and finished metal products to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards. This role ensures that all products leaving the shop meet quality, safety, and performance requirements. ???? Key Responsibilities Quality Inspection Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measures, and other precision tools. Inspect fabricated parts, assemblies, and structural components for defects, accuracy, and workmanship. Conduct first?article, in?process, and final inspections. Review and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications. Documentation & Reporting Complete inspection reports, non?conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action documentation. Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and quality metrics. Tag and quarantine non?conforming materials or parts. Communicate quality issues to supervisors, engineers, and production teams. Compliance & Standards Ensure adherence to company quality procedures and industry standards. Verify material certifications, heat numbers, and traceability documentation. Support internal and external audits as needed. Shop Support Collaborate with production team members and supervisors to resolve quality issues. Recommend process improvements to reduce defects and increase efficiency. Assist in calibration and maintenance of inspection tools Safety Follow all shop safety protocols and PPE requirements. Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices. ???? ???? Preferred Skills & Qualifications Experience in metal fabrication, machining, or welding environments. Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments. Knowledge of welding symbols and inspection criteria. Ability to identify defects such as warping, misalignment, porosity, cracks, and incorrect dimensions. Strong attention to detail and problem?solving skills. Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar certification. Experience with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems. Familiarity with CNC machining or structural steel fabrication. Previous QC experience in a metal shop or manufacturing environment.
