Job Description

Primary Purpose: The High School Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief culture builder of the campus. The principal ensures high levels of student achievement through aligned curriculum implementation, strong instructional systems, strategic talent management, and a safe, student-centered learning environment. The principal leads continuous improvement aligned to the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS), district strategic goals, and the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP). The role requires building collective efficacy, fostering a culture of high expectations, and ensuring equitable outcomes for all students. Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master's degree in Educational Administration or related field Valid Texas Principal or Mid-Management Certification Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certification Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check; non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee Required Experience: Three (3) years' teaching experience Three (3) years' experience as an assistant principal and/or associate principal. (High school preferred) Knowledge/Skills: Deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems Ability to analyze multiple data sources to drive instructional decisions Strong leadership in building positive school culture Ability to manage personnel, budgets, and campus operations Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Commitment to culturally responsive and equitable practices Major Responsibilities and Duties: (The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required) Professionalism The Educators' Code of Ethics is set forth in the Texas Administrative Code to provide rules for standard practices and ethical conduct toward students, professional colleagues, school officials, parents, and members of the community. Rule §247.1 Purpose and Scope; Definitions Rule §247.2 Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators Instructional Leadership The principal ensures high-quality instruction across all classrooms by: Leading implementation of HQIM aligned to TEKS and district pacing. Monitoring instructional practices through frequent walkthroughs and feedback cycles. Using multiple data sources (MAP, STAAR, benchmarks, formative data) to drive decisions and acceleration. Ensuring PLCs function as high-performing professional learning communities focused on student outcomes. Supporting effective differentiation and intervention systems (MTSS, RTI, acceleration models). Modeling the use of research-based instructional strategies. Ensuring assessment administration systems are secure, aligned, and instructionally useful. Monitoring fidelity of curriculum implementation across all tiers of instruction and alignment to district expectations. Lead and monitor comprehensive CCMR systems to ensure all students graduate college, career, and military ready, including oversight of advanced academics, CTE pathways, industry-based certifications, dual credit, SAT/ACT participation, and personalized graduation planning aligned to accountability indicators. The principal ensures that instructional systems are coherent, data-driven, and aligned to district academic goals. Human Capital Management: The principal builds and develops a high-performing staff by: Recruiting, selecting, and retaining highly qualified personnel. Establishing clear performance expectations aligned to T-TESS and district priorities. Providing timely, actionable feedback and coaching. Developing leadership capacity among assistant principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders. Creating professional learning plans aligned to student performance needs. Supporting staff growth plans with measurable outcomes. Addressing performance concerns with clarity, urgency, and consistency. The principal ensures staff effectiveness directly translates into improved student outcomes. Executive Leadership The principal demonstrates ethical and collaborative leadership by: Acting with integrity and in alignment with the Texas Educators' Code of Ethics. Communicating clear expectations for performance and conduct. Building shared ownership of campus goals. Making decisions grounded in data, policy, and student-centered priorities. Modeling resilience, professionalism, and emotional intelligence. Ensuring equitable access and opportunity for all students. The principal leads with clarity, accountability, and a relentless focus on results. School Culture & Climate The principal cultivates a safe, inclusive, and achievement-oriented culture by: Establishing systems that promote positive student behavior and accountability. Ensuring consistent implementation of the Student Code of Conduct. Building strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Promoting student voice, leadership, and engagement. Ensuring visible leadership presence during arrival, passing periods, lunch, and dismissal. Monitoring campus data (attendance, discipline, course performance) and responding proactively. Celebrating academic and extracurricular excellence. The principal builds a culture where students feel safe, supported, and challenged. Strategic Operations The principal ensures effective campus operations by: Aligning budget and staffing decisions to instructional priorities. Implementing systems that maximize instructional time. Overseeing compliance with district, state, and federal regulations. Leading campus improvement planning aligned to district goals. Monitoring safety and security protocols. Ensuring smooth coordination of campus events and programs. Using data dashboards and accountability metrics to track progress. The principal ensures operational excellence in service of instructional excellence. Student Management & Safety Develop and maintain equitable discipline systems. Conduct conferences with students and families. Monitor student attendance and engagement systems. Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures. Ensure visible and consistent enforcement of safety measures, including ID badge compliance. Professional Growth Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned to T-PESS growth goals. Participate in leadership networks and professional associations. Use evaluative feedback for continuous improvement. Lead research-based campus professional learning aligned to district goals. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises and evaluates associate principals, assistant principals, counselors, teachers, librarians, instructional aides, and support staff. Equipment Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, printer, copier, scanner, fax and other equipment applicable to the position. Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Handle multiple priorities and maintains emotional control under stress. Works with frequent interruptions. Work irregular and extended work hours Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, lifting, and carrying (may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment). May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Occasional district wide and statewide travel. Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motion. Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces.
