Job Description & Requirements Specialty: First Assist Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/19/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 40 hours per week Shift: 8 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN - First Assist (RNFA) for a 30-bed Operating Room unit at a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and on-call availability. Responsibilities 30-bed adult Operating Room unit at a short-term acute care, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) Day shift, 5x8-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 5:15 PM) On-call required on a self-scheduled rotating basis, including some weeknights and weekends Charting systems in use: Cerner, Accudose, and SBAR Floating within scope is not required Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; those between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the same rate Local candidates are not accepted Responsibilities include surgical first assist duties such as suturing all wound layers, clamping/cauterizing vessels, digital tissue manipulation, suctioning/irrigation, wound dressing, and counting sponges with the circulating nurse Additional clinical skills include aseptic technique, instrument processing, laser safety, sterilization/disinfection, and use of isolation precautions/PPE Robotic cases including Da Vinci Si and Xi systems are performed in this unit, as well as thoracic, urology, and general surgery cases Orientation is held every other Thursday Pre-start modules are required and typically take 2–4 hours to complete; vary by specialty Scrub color is bright blue Parking is complimentary for travelers First-time travelers are not accepted for this position Former permanent employees of any Vandalia Health System facility (including CAMC, Mon Health, Davis Medical Center, and others in the system) are not eligible for a travel contract at this location Former permanent employees of this specific facility must have a minimum 2-year gap since their last day worked before being eligible to return as a traveler No RTO restrictions Requirements Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license acceptable at time of application, but active license required before start) Current BLS certification required (must be American Heart Association-issued) Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Experience in a pediatric OR setting required Proficiency in circulating and scrubbing required Experience with General OR cases required Experience in women's specialty services preferred Robotic surgical experience (e.g., Da Vinci Si or Xi) preferred IV start skills preferred Travel nursing experience preferred Driver's License and Social Security card required for consideration Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption accepted with documentation from an allergist or physician Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-674833.
