Job Description

The Melt Charger is responsible for safely and efficiently operating overhead crane equipment to transport, stage, and charge steel and other raw materials into melting furnaces. This position plays a critical role in supporting furnace operations, maintaining material flow, and ensuring safe foundry practices. What You'll Do: Operate overhead crane to move scrap steel, alloys, and other charge materials. Safely charge furnaces according to production schedules and melt specifications. Verify correct materials and quantities prior to furnace charging. Coordinate with Melt Operators and Supervisors to maintain proper furnace feed. Inspect crane equipment daily and report mechanical or safety concerns. Maintain clean and organized work areas around charging stations. Follow all safety procedures related to molten metal, overhead loads, and heavy equipment. Assist with inventory control and material staging as needed. Record material usage and charging data accurately. Must wear protective safety equipment including goggles, face shield and special gloves, when necessary(steel toed shoes with metatarsal guard, safety eyewear, hearing protection) Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Works with dust, heat, noise and fumes of foundry. Must be able to bend, reach, lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Must be able to use small hand tools including vibratory tools, grinders, sanders and saws.
