Position Type: Security Date Posted: 2/19/2026 Location: West Harvey-Dixmoor 147 Administrative Offices Date Available: TBD Closing Date: UNTIL FILLED District: West Harvey-Dixmoor School District #147 Job TitleCulture & Climate Coach / School Safety OfficerDepartment Student Services / School Operations Reports To School Principal and District Administration Job Summary The Culture & Climate Coach / School Safety Officer plays a dual role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment while supporting positive student behavior and campus security. This position is focused on relationship-building, prevention, and student support, not enforcement alone. The role emphasizes proactive supervision, conflict de-escalation, restorative practices, and collaboration with staff to promote a positive school climate where all students feel safe, respected, and supported. Key ResponsibilitiesCulture, Climate & Student Support Build positive, trusting relationships with students through daily presence, mentoring, and modeling respectful behavior Support schoolwide positive behavior systems (PBIS), social-emotional learning (SEL), and restorative practices Assist students in resolving conflicts using age-appropriate de-escalation and problem-solving strategies Support students during transitions (arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, hallway movement) Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address behavioral concerns proactively Reinforce school expectations and help students understand and practice appropriate behavior Serve as a positive adult role model who reflects the district's values of equity, inclusion, and respect Safety & Security Monitor school grounds, buildings, and common areas to ensure a safe and orderly environment Assist with visitor check-in procedures and campus access control in accordance with district policy Respond calmly and appropriately to safety concerns, behavioral incidents, or emergencies Support emergency preparedness procedures, drills, and safety protocols Document incidents accurately and communicate concerns promptly to administration Maintain visibility on campus to deter unsafe behavior while remaining approachable to students Collaboration & Communication Work closely with school staff to support classroom and campus needs Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, families, and visitors Participate in professional development related to school safety, trauma-informed practices, and student behavior support QualificationsRequired High school diploma or equivalent Experience working with children, youth, or school-aged populations Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-stress situations Strong communication and interpersonal skills Commitment to supporting a positive, inclusive elementary school environment Ability to pass background checks and meet district employment requirements Preferred Prior experience in school safety, youth mentoring, behavior support, or campus supervision Training in PBIS, SEL, restorative practices, conflict resolution, or trauma-informed care Experience working in elementary school settings Bilingual abilities (as applicable to district needs) Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and supervise for extended periods Ability to respond quickly to safety situations Work primarily outdoors and indoors in a school environment Ability to lift up to district-specified weight limits if required Work Schedule School-year position; hours aligned with the student day (before/after school coverage as assigned) Core Competencies Relationship-driven approach to student behavior Cultural responsiveness and equity-centered mindset Proactive safety awareness Team collaboration Strong judgment and professionalism Application Procedure: Apply online, attaching a copy of your letter of interest, a resume and professional reference information.
