Hostler Driver - Ground Person In the Los Angeles area, Parsec provides services at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Hobart Terminal and operates 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Starting pay for the Hostler Driver-Ground Person position is $20.89 per hour which increases to $21.96 per hour after six (6) months and $24.64 per hour after one year of service. Employees will train at the entry-level Ground Person position for a minimum of two weeks. The Ground Person is responsible for directing crane operators who are loading and unloading cargo containers from railcars. The ground person is also responsible for preparing railcars for loading and unloading by removing and installing IBC locks. Employees will also be trained in the Hostler Driver position. Drivers perform a variety of driving tasks, including hauling containers from the rail track to other areas of the intermodal yard for outside driver pickup, moving chassis, and moving containers about the intermodal yard in a safe and efficient manner. This position is unionized and after a 120-day probation period, you will become a union member. Must have open availability to work any needed shift and weekends. Employees are subject to a shift change every six months. The following schedules are seniority-based: Shift 1: 12:00 AM-8:30 AM Shift 3: 4:00 PM-12:30 AM Once certified as a driver, mandatory overtime is given based on operational demand. Once trained to operate a hostler, you will safely maneuver, and position trailers drive trailers and chassis with containers around the rail yard terminal as they are loaded and unloaded to/from the train. Safely maneuver and position trailers within the yard using a hostler truck. Load and unload trailers as needed, ensuring proper handling of all cargo. Conduct routine inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition before operation. Maintain accurate records of trailer movements. Collaborate with team members to optimize yard operations and enhance efficiency. Follow all safety protocols and regulations while operating equipment in the yard. The ground person is also responsible for removing and installing IBC locks. Requirements Proven experience in truck driving or related roles is preferred. Familiarity with operating any of this equipment: Side Loader, Forklift, or Crane is a plus. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately. Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude. Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and maintain a flexible schedule as needed.
