Salary: $44,884.00 Annually Location : Albemarle Campus, NC Job Type: Full-time Staff Job Number: 00568 Division: Administrative/Fiscal Services Opening Date: 02/24/2026 GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION The Network Systems Administrator performs work requiring advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of computer systems, networks, and cloud-based technologies. This position is responsible for the analysis, design, configuration, implementation, and optimization of enterprise information systems and security infrastructure. The role exercises independent judgment and discretion in diagnosing complex system issues, evaluating security risks, and implementing technical solutions. The Network Systems Administrator serves as a senior technical resource, providing expert-level guidance and escalation support to frontline technical staff. This position reports to the Director of Network Services. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Associate degree in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience One year of experience performing systems administration, network administration, or comparable advanced technical functions Preferred: Experience administering enterprise endpoint protection and threat detection platforms Experience supporting Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems Experience administering Microsoft Office 365, Azure, and other cloud-based environments Experience supporting virtualized server environments Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure and directory services 3-5 years of experience performing systems administration, network administration, or comparable advanced technical functions ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAnalyze organizational computing needs and design, configure, and administer on-premises and cloud-based systems to meet operational, security, and performance requirements Apply advanced knowledge of operating systems, networks, and security principles to monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance and availability Research, evaluate, and remediate cybersecurity threats using professional judgment and industry best practices Design, implement, and maintain system security controls, including identity management, access controls, and file security Plan, test, and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements across enterprise platforms Conduct security vulnerability assessments and oversee remediation activities for servers, networks, and cloud services Administer directory services and network authentication systems in alignment with institutional policies and operational needs Serve as a subject matter expert and provide advanced troubleshooting and consultation for complex technical issues escalated from help desk staff Evaluate vendor solutions, coordinate with service providers, and contribute to decisions regarding system architecture and support services Participate in the planning, coordination, and execution of technology initiatives and infrastructure projects Contribute to disaster recovery planning and system resiliency strategies Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push or pull up to 200 pounds on carts or other assistive devices. Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 12 feet. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation and be able to drive college vehicles. Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed. Must have the resources necessary to work remotely from home and complete job duties with work assigned laptop. OTHER DUTIESManage and maintain cloud-based services including but not limited to Office 365, Azure, and Google Workspace. Setup, configure, and manage relevant and associated virtual and physical network systems and processes that correspond to major administrative duties. Setup, configure, and manage enterprise anti-virus environment. Research and remediate security threats. Upgrade systems by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software. Negotiate and manage related support contracts and vendor relationships. Manage and configure DNS filtering technologies. Research and install application, security, and operating system patches for Windows, Linux, and other network systems. Security vulnerability scans and remediations of servers and cloud services. Manage user accounts, implement user access controls, and file access. Research, oversee, and plan technology projects. Manage active directory and network directory structures reflecting organizational needs. Help create and maintain disaster recovery plans congruent with the college's information systems disaster recovery plan. Setup, configure, and manage IT UPS infrastructure. Provide advanced support and troubleshooting services to help desk personnel as issues outside of their expected scope or available resources necessitate. Must be able to work effectively, respectively, proactively and independently as a member of a team. Ability to self-motivate, take personal initiative and act proactively. Serve on college committees, as needed.
