Lifeguard Instructor Under general supervision of the Pool Manager and the Aquatics Supervisor, the Lifeguard Instructor will teach American Red Cross Lifeguard courses at North Laurel Community Center. Duties include: Leading American Red Cross Lifeguard and American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification courses. Developing lesson plans and managing timelines for material. Leading six to ten students per class. Monitoring activities, providing instructions, and preventing accidents in the aquatics facility. Must possess a good working relationship with American Red Cross. Recording and organizing accurate records concerning attendance, accident/incident/injury reports, and participant/student information. Maintaining security of American Red Cross testing materials and participant's completed tests. Maintaining a clean, safe, orderly facility and class. Assisting with planning, attending, and participating in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings. Promoting aquatic programs and center memberships. Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding to uniform requirements. Completing additional duties assigned by supervisors. Qualifications/Skills include: Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard. Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard Instructor. Pre-employment/employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Good decision-maker. Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Understand and abide by the Department's customer service standards. Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions. Must be at least 19 years old. Experience includes: Must have previous experience as a Lifeguard. Experience as an Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager preferred. Prior teaching of American Red Cross Lifeguard courses preferred. Education: High school diploma; some college preferred. Rate of pay: Contingent Paraprofessional salary commensurate with experience $16.00 - $21.25 per hour.
