Bamberg County School DistrictDistrict Position Description Position Title: Director of Student Services Department: Special Education Reports To: Superintendent Position Open Until Filled.Proper Certification from the SCDE required.Qualifications: A Master's Degree or higher. Valid certification in administration. A minimum of three years' teaching experience in at least one area of handicap. Two years' successful administrative experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Job Goal: Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. Performance Responsibilities: . Establishes and maintains special classes and services for disabled students; Prepares all financial and program reports required by the state department of education; Plans and administers the budget for special education services; Assists in recruitment, selection, and placement of special education personnel; Determines the need for new programs and services; Develops and promotes suitable procedures for screening and diagnosis of student problems; Coordinates procedures for placement, transfer, and termination of students in special education programs; Develops professional development training programs for special education staff; Supervises all special education personnel; Schedules and assigns psychologists, school social workers, and speech therapists; Plans and supervises a system of record keeping; Identifies adequate supplies and equipment for special education programs; Arranges with neighboring school districts for the education of those disabled students who cannot be adequately served in the local district; Evaluates existing programs as to their effectiveness; Interprets the program to school personnel and to the community at large; Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development; Conducts staffing meetings to include IEP team members that determine appropriate placement of students; Participates in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned; Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
