Part-Time Parks Worker I The Part-Time Parks Worker I supports the City of Kennesaw's Parks & Recreation Department by performing routine maintenance and event support duties primarily at Adams Park and other City facilities. This role is essential to ensuring safe, clean, and well-prepared recreational spaces for community use, during evenings, weekends, and special events. Job Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Perform a variety of landscaping duties; mow grass; plant flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edge curb lines; clear leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spread and haul ground cover, dirt, or mulch; spray weed killer and fertilizer; prune trees and shrubs; weed flower beds; spread grass seed; services irrigation systems; groom ball fields; remove snow and ice, etc. Perform installation, maintenance, and upkeep tasks for various parks facilities, courts, fencing, and other structures: install and repair roofs on park buildings and structures; perform light plumbing and electrical repairs and installations; perform general construction; repair and maintains parks, picnic or other public facilities; repair sports and playground equipment; paint interiors and exteriors; clean and restock park restrooms; empty trash cans, clean floors, etc. Assist with special projects and seasonal work; maintain ball fields; install and remove decorations, tents and dance floors; set up chairs and tables; clear parks areas of debris following special events; remove and replace staging materials from sites as needed. Maintain inventory of equipment, parts and supplies; initiate orders materials and equipment needed for each job; perform routine safety inspections on equipment; advise supervisor of needed repairs. Communicate with supervisor, City employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Prepare or complete various forms, reports, work orders, logs, accident reports, inspection reports, or other documents. Receive various forms, reports, work orders, application instructions or other documents; review, complete, process, forward or retain as appropriate. Operate a variety of equipment and machinery to complete tasks including tractors, finish mowers, brush hog, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, spreaders, aerators, split seeders, chain saws, brush chipper, ball field stripers, chalkers, power saws, hand saws, drills, power tools, miscellaneous hand tools, pickup trucks, dump trucks, snow plows, salt spreaders, hand spreaders, bobcat, backhoe, golf cart, utility vehicle, and other equipment as needed to complete essential duties. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures and standards. Ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information. Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring. Ability to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment. Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by some experience in maintenance, landscaping, custodial or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Experience and knowledge on baseball and softball field preparation are preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions. Experience with basic landscaping, custodial, or event setup tasks preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Schedule: Nights and weekends, up to 29 hours per week ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the posted position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
