Position Title:Animal Control OfficerJob Posting Closing Date:03/08Provo City is hiring a full time Animal Control Officer to enforce animal control codes and statutes in the community. This position is responsible for investigating animal control issues and determining if violations have occurred. Respond to citizen complaints and reports about animals and cruelty to animals. Intercede in conflicts about animals and investigate animal control issues and determine whether a violation has occurred. Issue warnings, citations, summons, and licenses. Prepare and present a variety of reports and records for review including testifying in court. Patrol Provo City in a marked vehicle to ensure the protection of citizens and animals. Collect and/or impound vicious, injured, dead, sick, rabid, problematic, and stray animals or wildlife from public and private property. Utilize animal containment tools and equipment. Investigate animal bite complaints or suspected rabies cases. Handle lethal and controlled hazardous substances to euthanize animals. Assist in traffic control as needed. May inspect pet stores. Perform other related duties as required. What are the minimum requirements?Provo City will honor an equivalent combination of education/experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). One year of experience in the handling and care of animals. A valid, lawful driver’s license. UACOA Tranquilizer Gun certificate, UACOA Euthanasia Certificate, and Wildlife Handling Certificate required within 1 year of hire. What is the selection process?Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on March 9, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
