Definition Under general direction, supervises and coordinates the operations of an educational preschool program; organizes and implements program and classroom activities to provide learning experiences that support children's social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development; participates in curriculum planning, assessment, and documentation; and performs other related duties as assigned. Supervision Works under the direct supervision of the Director, Child Development Center Supervises classified staff, temporary, and/or student employees. Work Schedule 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Monday-Friday: Schedule may vary based upon center hours. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed by employees in this classification. Supervises and coordinates the operations of an educational preschool program. Organizes and implements program and classroom activities to provide learning experiences that support children's social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Participates in curriculum planning, assessment, and documentation; establishing and meeting children's educational and developmental goals. Designs effective environments for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of children's work. Establishes classroom schedules, including managing the use of shared classroom space and equipment. Develops, maintains, and adjusts staff schedules to ensure consistent program coverage and compliance with required staff-to-child ratios. Enrolls children in the preschool program; interviews and provides information to parents of prospective students. Plans and administers parent education and participation programs; provides direction and information to parent organizations; conducts parent orientation and meetings. Participates in classroom teaching activities as needed; interacts with children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Manages the food and nutrition program. May oversee the supervision and mentoring of college and community students assigned to the child development center. Maintains facility area(s) in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; develops and implements the center's safety and disaster plan. Monitors budgets and tracks budget for assigned areas. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals, policies, and procedures related to areas of responsibility; contributes to program review processes. Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and a positive work and academic environment. Coordinates and oversees the implementation and modification of technology. Supervises department employees; assigns and monitors employee's work and evaluates employee performance; trains employees; participates in employee selection. Monitors and reviews programs and/or operations for legal compliance. Analyzes and interprets data; prepares, reviews, and/or approves documents and reports. May direct and/or conduct surveys and special studies; may maintain statistics. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications The education, training and experience qualifications are considered likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, child development, or a related field. Three (3) years of preschool teaching experience, including two (2) years of experience with infant/toddler programs. Licenses/Certificates/Other Requirements Valid permit as a Child Development Site Supervisor issued by the California Department of Education. Pediatric CPR, first aid and documented training in health practices as required by Title 22 in the California Code of Regulations. Must obtain all California Community Care Licensing Division certifications prior to employment. Knowledge of: Principles, theories, and practices in educational preschool programs. Development and provision of curriculum and guidance for young children. Health, nutrition, and safety needs of young children. Current and emerging technologies that support the applicable area(s). PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS: The following physical and mental standards are identified as necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is typically performed in an indoor office or preschool classroom setting. Work includes risk of exposure to childhood communicable diseases. Additional Information Salary M22 Starting salary: Step 1 $6,165.00 to Step 3 $6,798.00 per month, based on training and experience. Salary range: Step 1 $6,165.00 to Step 6 $7,868.00 per month (including longevity steps).
