RequirementsSummary The Nurse Practitioner performs duties that include but are not limited to taking a patient history, performing a physical examination, and making an assessment and diagnosis, including initiating, reviewing, and revising treatment and therapy plans for those services. Qualifications: • A minimum of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant license • Prefer two (2) years in Medical Services in a health-related facility • Current CPR Certification • If a recovering person has a minimum of one year or more of continuous sobriety and active participation in a recovery program • Bilingual candidate, preferred Clinical Duties • Perform comprehensive patient assessments including medical history, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment planning • Initiate, review, revise, and manage treatment plans, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) where applicable • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and screening procedures • Prescribe medications and medical devices within scope of licensure and DEA registration • Conduct medical record review to ensure accuracy, compliance, and continuity of care • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, HITECH, OSHA, and all applicable federal and California regulations • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medical staff meetings Direct Supervision - Medical Assistant(s) The NP provides clinical supervision and oversight to Medical Assistants (MAs), including but not limited to: • Delegating clinical tasks consistent with MA scope of practice • Overseeing patient preparation, vitals collection, medical screening, and documentation accuracy • Supervising medication witnessing and administration support • Ensuring exam rooms meet infection control and safety standards • Reviewing EHR documentation for completeness and compliance • Providing clinical instruction, training, and corrective guidance • Assigning additional duties to Medical Assistants as appropriate for clinic operations and patient care needs • Participating in performance feedback and competency evaluation in coordination with leadership The NP ensures all delegated tasks remain within California scope-of-practice laws for unlicensed assistive personnel. Clinical Coordination - Residential Support Staff While Residential Support Staff report operationally to the Residential Program Manager, the NP provides medical direction and clinical coordination regarding resident health needs, including: • Providing medical guidance related to residents in withdrawal • Overseeing medical aspects of medication monitoring and drug testing procedures • Coordinating care for residents requiring medical evaluation or higher level of care • Providing direction regarding medical documentation standards when related to resident health status • Supporting crisis management related to medical emergencies • Assigning medical-related duties to Residential Support Staff when appropriate and within scope (e.g., monitoring, documentation, reporting of symptoms) • Collaborating with Program Manager to ensure policies align with medical best practices The NP does not supervise residential operational functions (e.g., housekeeping, facility walkthroughs, policy enforcement) but may provide clinical guidance when health or safety is implicated. Leadership & Administrative Authority • Serve as clinical lead in the absence of the Medical Director, as designated • Ensure delegated staff operate within legal scope and organizational policy • Identify training needs and recommend corrective action when clinical standards are not met • Assign additional duties consistent with staff job descriptions, licensure limits, and organizational needs • Support development and implementation of medical protocols Responsibilities And Competencies: • Therapeutic procedures • Laboratory and screening procedures • Medical devices and physician's prescriptions • Medical record review • Provide supervision and oversight to medical assistants and nurses as directed by the medical director • Specifics are outlined in the service agreement and medical provider employment agreement • Strong clinical judgment and independent decision-making • Ability to supervise multidisciplinary support staff • Knowledge of California scope-of-practice regulations • Crisis management and de-escalation skills • Effective interdisciplinary communication • Commitment to recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care Education and License Requirements: NP: Must hold an active license from the California Board of Registered Nursing PA: Must hold an active license from the Physician Assistant Board of California Schedule Minimum 3 days a week in person on site. Days may vary based on program requirements.
