Job Description: SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer to join their Information Technology team. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Cloud Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the institution's hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This role combines expertise in cloud technologies, virtualization, identity management, and enterprise systems administration to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable IT services. The engineer will lead initiatives in Microsoft 365/Azure environments, VMware virtualization, and integrations with academic and administrative systems, while collaborating across teams to support institutional goals and compliance standards. RESPONSIBILITIES: Cloud Services & Identity Management: Administer Microsoft 365 tenant, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams. Manage Azure AD/Entra ID, implement MFA/SSO, and enforce security policies. Integrate identity management solutions with Banner, LMS, and other academic systems. Virtualization & Systems Administration: Maintain VMware environment: upgrades, cluster maintenance, patching, and VM deployment. Perform daily operations of enterprise servers in Windows and Linux environments. Support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and hybrid configurations. Infrastructure & Data Center Operations: Oversee datacenter hardware installation, configuration, and lifecycle management. Manage enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery planning. Maintain third-party appliances and middleware systems. Automation & Scripting: Develop PowerShell and shell scripts for automation and process improvements. Implement scheduled tasks and monitoring solutions for proactive system management. Collaboration & Compliance: Work with Cybersecurity team to ensure adherence to NIST/CIS frameworks and FERPA/GDPR compliance. Document procedures and provide training to ITS staff. Offer Tier 2 support for technical teams and contribute to knowledge base resources. Requirements: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; OR an Associate's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and at least two years' equivalent experience. Proficiency with VMware, Windows Server, Linux, and Active Directory. Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, networking, and cloud identity systems. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications: Certifications in Microsoft Azure, M365, or VMware. Experience managing Microsoft admin systems Experience integrating Ellucian Banner, LMS, and CRM systems. Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation. Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM frameworks and enterprise backup solutions. Prior experience in higher education IT environments.
