Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/23/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or Compact RN license. Responsibilities Work in a Transitional Care Unit (TCU) within a 20-bed Med/Surg Tele unit (split across two areas, 5A and 5B) at an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center Patient population includes general medical patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA, infections, and wounds; some surgical and other service line patients may also be admitted Patient ratio is 1:5 Skills required include trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, central line blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation Non-titrating drip experience required: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix Non-titrating drip experience preferred: Cardizem and Amiodarone (training available if not experienced) EMR is Epic; experience is expected IV pumps used: Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell Bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station are used for telemetry monitoring Shift hours are 0630–1900 (12-hour days) 36 hours available per week Weekend rotation is every other weekend No on-call or call-back requirements Floating within scope of practice at the hospital may be required RTO of up to 7 days may be approved per contract Unit is supported by 1 CNA per sub-unit (5A and 5B), a shared charge nurse (who may take patients), phlebotomy 24/7, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalists 24/7, and residents 24/7 New employee orientation (NEO) followed by 2 orientation shifts on the unit Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are placed into open slots in the schedule 50% of holidays during the contract are required to be worked Royal blue scrubs are required Free parking is available Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered Requirements Active NC or Compact RN license required Current BLS and ACLS certifications required Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year Experience with trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, wound vacs, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required Non-titrating drip experience with Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix required Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration First-time travelers will not be considered for this position Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-677842.
