Construction Worker I GradeN06 $42,475.00 - $55,217.00Construction Worker IIGradeN08$46,828.00 - $61,336.00Construction Worker IIIGradeN09$49,170.00 - $63,921.00Essential Functions What you can expect to be doing (Essential Functions): • Performs ditch, structure, and pipe placement, repair, and maintenance activities related to drainage Operates and maintains equipment and hand tools. • Assists with inclement weather and special event response. • Assists in traffic control measures to provide a safe work zone, including proper placement of signs and cones. Serves on the rotating on-call schedule • Participate in ongoing safety training Completes other tasks as assigned. Do you supervise or not? Construction Worker III may occasionally lead small teams in minor activities in the absence of the Stormwater Maintenance Crew Supervisor What are the physical demands?Work is performed in the field, involving standing, walking, bending, crouching, climbing, and stooping with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Regular exposure to outdoor weather is required. The role demands use of equipment requiring fine motor skills and includes periodic heavy lifting-occasionally up to 100 pounds, frequently 10-25 pounds, or consistently 20-50 pounds. Operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Work occasionally requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather). Exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, and will be required to wear personal protective equipment. Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic). Where and how do you work? The work is typically performed in a variety of environments and locations involving high heat, extreme temperatures, difficult terrain, and varying heights, confined spaces, limited visibility, and hazardous conditions. Minimum Qualifications What do you need to know to do this job effectively? KnowledgeConstruction Worker I - No knowledge of general construction methods and practices required. Construction Worker II - Basic skills in construction methods and/or practices of stormwater maintenance activities. Construction Worker III - Skilled construction methods and/or practices of stormwater maintenance activities. Ability to All levels: • Read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations; • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing); • Work a rotating on-call schedule, inclement weather, and special events to include holidays and weekends Perform routine assignments with a team Model behaviors that are consistent with the Town's values of RESPECT; Construction Worker II: • Work independently or with teams to perform routine assignments; Occasionally light and construction equipment operate. Construction Worker III: • Perform skilled tasks Operate various equipment related to the program Perform preventive maintenance on equipment Perform stormwater system construction and maintenance activities What is education and/or experience do you need to be considered for this job? Experience:Construction Worker I - No experience required. Construction Worker II - At least one year of job-related experience. Construction Worker III - At least three years of job-related experience. Education: Construction Worker I - high school diploma or equivalency is required Construction Worker II-III -Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills associated with a high school education What are the safety considerations for this job?You will be subject to the policy. The town will provide full-time employees group medical and dental insurance including family coverage. Retirement Health Savings Plan Employees hired after June 30, 2010, in a regular full-time or regular part- time position are required to participate in the Retirement Health Savings Plan. Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis. The current contribution amount is 1%. Paid Time Off Vacation/Annual Leave: Employees in regular full or part time positions earn between 12 and 26 days per year depending upon length of Town service. Sick Leave: Employees in full or part time regular positions earn 12 days per year. Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees receive 6 weeks of Paid Parental Leave after birth or placement of a child in the home for adoption or foster care. This leave does not come from Employee's leave bank. Paid Holidays: There are 12 official Town holidays. Employees in full or part time regular positions are eligible for paid holiday time. Personal Leave: All employees in full or part time regular positions are granted 3 days of personal leave per year. This leave is non-cumulative Local Government Retirement System All employees in regular full or part time position are required to contribute to the retirement system. Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis. The current contribution amount is 6%. Supplemental Retirement Plans NC 401(k)-The Town makes a contribution of 5% to the 401(k) for all regular full and part time employees. There is no employee match required. Employees have the option of making contributions on a pre or post tax basis. The plan is administered by Empower. 457 Deferred Compensation Plan-Town of Chapel Hill employees have the option of making contributions to a 457. The Town does not make contributions to this plan. The plan is administered by MissionSquare. Disability Insurance Town Provided: The Town provides both short term and long term disability insurance to all regular full or part time employees. The plan will pay up to 50% of the employee's base income up to $462 per week for non-job related injuries. Voluntary Short Term Disability: Employees have the option of purchasing supplemental disability insurance. This plan will pay employees a maximum of 25% of their base weekly earnings up to $400. Life Insurance The Town provides full and part time regular employees with an individual term life insurance policy. Employees have the option of purchasing additional life insurance for a small fee. Dependent life insurance is also available. Direct Deposit All employees hired after July 1, 2007 are required to have direct deposit.
