ControllerPosition Summary Army Navy Country Club is a prestigious private, member-owned institution with a legacy dating back to 1924. The Controller develops and administers policies and procedures to coordinate accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes, financial records, and reporting. This role prepares forecasts, operational analyses, and financial reports for administrative and managerial functions. The Controller evaluates operating results in terms of costs, revenues, budgets, trends, and overall Club financial health, and serves as a key advisor to senior management on all financial matters. Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Leads and oversees all financial and accounting operations of the Club. • Oversees and manages the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Systems/Data Specialists; sets goals, evaluates performance, and promotes professional growth. • Develops and enforces strong internal control policies to safeguard Club assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and support accurate financial reporting. • Leads the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely reconciliation of accounts and preparation of accurate financial statements. • Prepares operating budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with leadership; monitors performance and recommends corrective actions. • Serves as a strategic financial advisor to the Chief Business Officer on initiatives, cost-saving opportunities, and operational improvements. • Works with the CFO to Prepare financial reports and analysis for the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and senior leadership. • Ensures compliance with state and local tax requirements and oversees preparation of tax filings. • Partners with external auditors and CPA firms to ensure sound accounting practices and successful audits, including pension plan audits as required. • Advises and conducts training for department heads and managers on budgeting, financial procedures, and expense management. • Monitors accounts receivable and directs collection efforts in accordance with Club policies. • Safeguards Club funds and assets, ensuring proper cash handling, deposits, expenditures, and financial controls. • Oversees inventory controls, receiving procedures, and storeroom management to ensure effective cost control. • Oversees fixed asset tracking, capital planning, and depreciation schedules. • Reviews, enhances, and supports financial and accounting systems, including POS and automation tools; serves as liaison with software vendors. • Assists with evaluation, negotiation, and implementation of major vendor contracts to maximize Club resources. • Negotiates and administers employee benefit programs and related contracts. • Audits member and guest charges, cash handling, and expenditures to ensure accuracy and accountability. • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding financial, member, and employee matters. • Leads special financial projects, including system upgrades, process improvements, and business transformation initiatives. Reports to: CFO Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred. • Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in private club, hospitality, or similarly complex organizations. • Demonstrated expertise in audits, internal controls, financial reporting, and budget management. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting systems, and club management software (Jonas, Club Essentials, or similar). • Strong leadership, team development, and supervisory capabilities. • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality.
