Job Title: Maintenance TechnicianDepartment: LinehaulReports To: Maintenance SupervisorSummary: Daylight Transport is looking for a maintenance compliance inspector and technician. The role is based in Fontana, CA.As the Maintenance Technician, you will assist the Maintenance Team with compliance and statutory inspections of truck and trailing equipment, perform routine maintenance tasks, diagnose and fix mechanical issues, and ensure that all equipment operates efficiently and safely. This role will be pivotal to ensuring Federal and State compliance of our owned and leased equipment. Strong communication skills and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment are essential. Cummins Engine Diagnostics a plus.Key Responsibilities: Perform PM, DOT, 90-day inspections on trucks and trailers, completing and submitting necessary compliance documents to Safety and MaintenanceDiagnostics experience (Cummins Engines a plus)Conduct vehicle inspections in accordance with Part 393 and Appendix G, including:Identifying defective vehicle components.Utilizing appropriate inspection methods, procedures, tools, and equipment effectively.Perform brake service and inspections, including:Applying advanced knowledge of brake systems.Mastering the use of methods, procedures, tools, and equipment required for brake maintenance and inspection.Perform daily yard walks and identify any visible, necessary repairs needed done primarily on trucks and trailers (Forklifts and yard hostler experience a plus)Utilize internal program (Fleetio) to update service and inspection remindersAssist with part inventory and part runs as neededWilling to receive CARB Clean Air Truck Check certification to perform as neededPerform minor maintenance repairs, such as lights, brakes, shock absorbers, glad hands, and tires as neededMaintain on-site service truck as needed Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or Experience: A preferred combination of training and experience totaling at least 3 years, including:· Participation in a truck manufacturer or commercial training program.· Experience as a mechanic or inspector in a motor carrier maintenance program.· Experience in truck maintenance at a commercial garage, fleet leasing company, or similar facility.· Experience as a commercial vehicle inspector for a State, Provincial, or Federal agency.· Knowledge of Cummins engines and Peterbilt equipmentTraining and experience completing statutory and regulatory compliance inspections such as DOT and BIT Inspections required. LTL or Truckload Transportation/logistics experience highly preferred.Must be willing to learn new technical skills as needed.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Bilingual in Spanish as a second language preferred.Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in, both, standardized and custom scenarios.Other Skills/Qualifications: Computer literate, PC and mainframe. Effective oral and written communication skills, especially when working with teams. Entrepreneurial spirit: desire and willingness to produce and implement new solutions to old or new problems.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
