Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ED - Emergency Department Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and at least 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience. Responsibilities Acute care hospital Emergency Department with 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays High-volume ED treating approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day), including trauma, burns, cardiac, and spinal cord/TBI cases Telemetry monitoring required using Philips monitors; ability to read cardiac strips is essential Patient ratio of 1:4 EMR: Cerner 12-hour night shifts 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period; holiday coverage determined by unit needs Travelers may be floated mid-shift between up to 4 facilities (main campus, a secondary campus, and two freestanding ERs approximately 30 minutes apart) Ventilator management handled by Respiratory Therapy (RT available 24/7) Pharmacy support available 24/7, with a pharmacist present in the ED 10 hours per day Unit staffed with 2 charge RNs and 4 PCTs (sitters) 2–3 shift floor-specific orientation provided Provides emergency nursing care to a high-acuity patient population including trauma, cardiac, psychiatric holds (30–40 daily), and spinal cord/TBI cases Pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment on Day 1 of orientation covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion; nurses have been terminated for breaking sterile field during this assessment An additional pass/fail exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation; a study guide is provided in advance Orientation also includes educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted Men must be clean-shaven for mask fit testing Navy scrubs required Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously placed PRN through an outside staffing firm may be considered Requirements Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted Required certifications (must be active, no pending): BLS, ACLS, PALS — note that ENPC is not an accepted substitute for PALS Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN Minimum 2 years of ER experience required Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience required Cerner EMR experience Ability to read cardiac monitor strips (Philips monitors) Competency in sterile field technique, including Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation — 2 attempts allowed; failure of both results in a 6-month exclusion from this health system's AZ facilities Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address) Driver's license required for consideration 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Personal vehicle required — travel between float facilities is the traveler's responsibility Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-678457.
