IT Onboarding Specialist Swords to Plowshares is a community-based not-for-profit organization that provides counseling and case management, employment and training, housing, and legal assistance to veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area. We promote and protect the rights of veterans through advocacy, public education, and partnerships with local, state, and national entities. Believing that war causes wounds and suffering that last beyond the battlefield, our mission is to support veterans as they navigate the challenges of post-military life, and to prevent and end veteran homelessness through wrap-around care and informed advocacy. Location: San Francisco Veterans War Memorial Building. 401 Van Ness Ave Suite 313, SF, CA Schedule: Monday Friday, 9AM 5PM Reporting Type: Hybrid work possible after 30 days of in-person training period. Schedule will consist of 3 in office days in San Francisco/Oakland and 2 remote days. Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt Salary Range (Hourly if Non-Exempt, Annual if Exempt): $31.25/hour $32.21/hour Summary: Swords to Plowshares is seeking a full-time non-exempt IT Support & Onboarding Specialist to join our team of 200 staff members. The position is ideal for an IT professional with two years of experience looking to grow their skills and work in a nonprofit setting. The IT Support & Onboarding Specialist will provide fast and friendly technical assistance and troubleshooting including computer software, hardware, and network connectivity. Working closely with the People & Culture Department, this position will also support new employees onboarding and exits, including all tasks associated with equipment and related employee support. The ideal candidate must be an organized self-starter who can communicate in a clear and professional manner, be adept at troubleshooting, and provide excellent customer service to colleagues with a range of skill sets and experience navigating technology. Responsibilities Provide technical assistance and resolve software and hardware issues for Windows 11, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365, and various applications. Conduct onboarding training and initial walkthroughs for new staff, as well as closing out exiting staff. Refurbish and organize returned IT equipment. Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software. Run diagnostic programs to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Resolve technical issues with LANs, WANs, and network systems. Follow up with users to ensure issues are resolved. Train computer users and create training manuals and documentation. Maintain up-to-date information on phone systems and spreadsheets. Respond to hardware and software support questions, enhancing user troubleshooting abilities and IT skills. Communication and Collaboration Communicate clearly and effectively with strong interpersonal skills. Adapt communication style to various environments and audiences. Demonstrate effective group presentation and facilitation skills. Contribute effectively in meetings with both technical and non-technical people. Process Improvement and Administration Improve staff onboarding and offboarding processes and document changes. Perform general administrative tasks related to IT. Perform all functions within reasonable accommodations. Desired Qualifications Commitment to a safe and pleasant working environment Ability to work with and learn from people of diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds Ability to work independently even while working remotely and exercise judgment in proactive problem solving Excellent administrative skills and knowledge of Microsoft suites, Zoom, Outlook, password managers and other day-to-day tools Must be able to sit for prolonged periods, lift 50 pounds and occasionally work in tight and restrictive areas Must be comfortable with and conversant in use of hand tools including but not limited to hammer, screwdriver, wrench, punch-downs, crimpers Ability to effectively communicate in English with staff, clients, and external partners and stakeholders Local travel may be required (between SOMA, Presidio, Downtown San Francisco, Treasure Island and Oakland sites) Education Two (2) years of combined experience in Help Desk / technology support function in a professional environment preferred Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted Comprehensive Benefits Package Employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible for all benefits. 100% employer sponsored medical, vision, acupuncture, and dental coverage.
