OverviewPerforms a variety of assignments in order to maintain, repair, and beautify the New York Medical College campus, including general grounds and landscape maintenance, tree care, rubbish removal, and snow removal. As a “Level A” position, the individual must be available for emergencies including, but not limited to, as snow removal and storm damage. Schedule must be flexible in order to meet departmental needs for snow removal.Responsibilities Performs lawn care, seeding, sodding, mowing, fertilizing, mulching, thatching, weed control, watering, trimming and edging. Maintains a wide range of plantings (e.g. flowers, trees and shrubs), including watering, trimming, fertilizing, cultivating, mulching, pruning, and planting, as well as planting removals. Responsible for removal and disposal of rubbish, debris, and yard waste from campus lawns, parking lots, walkways, plazas, patios, etc. Responsible for operating and maintaining in a safe, knowledgeable and confident manner all related tools, equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to, hand- and riding mowers, seeders, rototillers, aerators, lawn sprinklers, small power tools, vacuums, blowers, edgers, etc. Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, patios, walkways and driveways using hand tools (including shoveling, sweeping) or plowing (using truck-mounted plow, snowblower, or Bobcat), as well as sanding, chopping ice, and/or applying de-icers as required or as assigned. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation Requirement:High school diploma or GED required.Licenses or Certifications:Valid driver’s license required.Technical/Computer Skills:Ability to use iPad is preferred.Prior Experience:A basic knowledge of power tool use and horticulture is preferred. Individual should have a mechanical aptitude. Strong preference for an individual familiar with operating snow removal equipment (e.g. snowplows, snow blowers, Bobcat. etc.) Experience on a college campus preferred.Physical & Environmental Demands:Candidates must be physically capable of performing all assigned tasks in various weather conditions. Must be able to climb and work from ladders. Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds, and lift up to 75 pounds when required.
