Job Title: Senior Mechanical EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an accomplished Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of high-performance mechanical systems for controlled environments-including cleanrooms, laboratories, and mission-critical facilities. In this role, you will mentor engineering teams, drive advanced design strategies, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver environments that support health, precision manufacturing, scientific innovation, and highly regulated operations. You will apply deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and industry insight to develop cutting-edge mechanical solutions emphasizing performance, reliability, sustainability, and compliance.Responsibilities Lead mechanical engineering design for complex facilities requiring advanced environmental control, including cGMP-regulated spaces and ISO-classified environments. Develop custom mechanical and utility systems with expertise in psychrometrics, humidity/temperature/pressure control, dehumidification, high-efficiency filtration, and specialty process piping systems. Oversee the design and development of innovative HVAC, mechanical, and energy systems incorporating emerging technologies, automation, and smart controls. Perform energy modeling, system simulations, and performance analyses to inform design decisions and support regenerative, energy-efficient design strategies. Write detailed control sequences, control diagrams, performance-based criteria, system scopes, and custom technical specifications. Guide Revit modeling standards, including best practices for sloped sanitary and process piping, elevation coordination, branch tie-ins, and inheritance strategies to ensure accurate modeling. Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams throughout all project phases to achieve design intent, mitigate risks, and ensure technical excellence. Mentor junior engineers, lead peer reviews, and provide expert, value-added feedback to drive accuracy, code compliance, and high-quality deliverables. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for controlled environments and highly complex mechanical systems. Conduct field inspections on major projects and lead post-construction "Lessons Learned" sessions to improve alignment between design intent and built results. Drive firmwide innovation by evaluating new technologies, sharing insights, and recommending improvements based on project experience and evolving industry standards. Essential Skills Extensive knowledge of advanced mechanical systems and emerging technologies for controlled environments. Expertise with psychrometric analysis, dewpoint/humidity control, and dehumidification system sizing. Strong practical understanding of pipe and duct sizing, leveraging experience rather than default software inputs. Demonstrated ability to design for redundancy, mission-critical reliability, and high-performance filtration and utility systems. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). Approximately 10+ years of post-graduation engineering experience. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD with the ability to support advanced modeling and documentation workflows. Proven experience designing mechanical systems for mission-critical, regulated, or high-performance facilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Direct experience with controlled environments such as biotech, pharmaceutical, medtech, sterile manufacturing, semiconductor, battery, aerospace, or mission-critical/data centers (strongly preferred). Experience developing design fee proposals, technical specifications, and control diagrams. Familiarity with pressure drop and velocity criteria for piping/ductwork and the nuances of sanitary piping modeling. Strong client-facing skills with the ability to translate requirements into technical solutions and build long-term relationships.
