Employment Type:Full timeShift:Day ShiftDescription:Performs comprehensive macroscopic examination for Pathology specimens in preparation for Pathologist microscopic examination. Handles specimens that require dissection and orientation and assist in the preparation of frozen sections with the Pathologists during normal working hours. Reviews patient history at time of grossing. Communicates in professional manner with clinicians regarding submitted specimens when necessary. Gross photographs when needed. Performs tissue selection for special studies, when needed, Assist with the processing of frozen section specimens. Performs postmortem examinations under supervision of a Pathologist including gross dissection, photography, clinical summary, and preparation of microscopic sections. Oversee operation of the surgical pathology grossing room including oversight of technical assistants, specimen accessioning and processing, and maintenance of workflow to the Pathologists. Responsible for inventory and ordering for the morgue and grossing room, to include troubleshooting issues with cryostat between service appointments. Develops and maintains familiarity with pathology and hospital information systems to perform data collection such as monthly breast audit. Performs photomicrographs for tumor conference. Reviews and designates appropriate limb and autopsy tissue for disposal. Writes and reviews procedures of gross room and associated hospital procedures. Keeps up to date on policies (reviewed every two years), procedures, skills, documentation requirements for continuing education, checklists and successful completion of competency surveys in a timely manner. Competency assessment to be completed at 6 months, and 1 year after hire date. Follows SOP for specimen collection/labeling/processing/storage/handling/ref lab testing. Completes additional duties as assigned. 2.Participates in the Quality Management of the Laboratory Provides suggestions and feedback in a timely manner for issues and/or problems. Maintains strict confidentiality and security of information. Recognizes, appropriately resolves and documents QA issues in a timely fashion. Performs/documents quality control testing calibration and limited preventative maintenance as defined by established protocol and takes appropriate remedial action. 3.Productivity and Initiative Able to complete work assignments in a timely manner Assists in the training of personnel or students. Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks effectively. Turnaround time meets threshold. Documents and communicates necessary info to appropriate staff/supervisor/manager/director to assure quality health care. Maintains a neat and organized work area Completes required CE Attendance /Punctuality in accordance with hospital policy. Follows safety rules and organizational policies in the workplace. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, state & local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior and safe work practices.Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in health science, Pathologists' AssistantCurrent license from New York State Department of Education as a Pathologist's Assistant.ASCP certification.Additional Qualifications (nice to have)One year preferred.Pay Range: $105,768-158,704Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
