Summary: The Surgical Technologist I serves in both the sterile processing and operating room areas. In the Sterile Processing Department, this position is responsible for the cleanliness, sterilization, and functioning of equipment and instrumentation used in surgical cases. In the Operating Room, this an introductory surgical technologist position, developing skills to prepare for the Surgical Technologist II position in the OR. Has a working knowledge and skills developed through formal training or work experience. Must be Certified Surgical Technologist. Must receive Sterile Processing certification within 6 months. Responsibilities: Perform sterilization process duties independently, including decontamination and cleaning of surgical equipment and instrumentation Ensure appropriate repairs are complete and maintenance performed Accurately assemble instrument sets based on established count sheets Store, deliver, and manage sterile supplies using aseptic techniques Maintain awareness of and make appropriate recommendations for process modifications to enhance efficiency and performance Troubleshoot instrument, set or equipment issues to provide optimal service In the Operating Room: This position handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. This position can provide the above described services for both basic surgeries and some more complicated surgeries. WORK EXPERIENCE Less than 1 year required EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Required LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Current Surgical Technologist Certification issued by an approved organization. Certification is not required if the employee has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces or was employed as a surgical technologist prior to September 9, 2009. Upon Hire Required If assigned to Sterile Processing & Distribution, Central Sterile Technician Certification; otherwise, not required 180 Days Required Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Required A Place Where You Belong We put our people first.
