The position is based in Athens, GA and involves travel to the Northeast Health District's 10 counties (Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton) as indicated. Under broad supervision, provides professional nursing care, training and consultation in accordance with nurse protocols, policies, and/or procedures. As the Infectious Disease Nurse Trainer & Consultant within the Northeast Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways. A current Georgia license to practice as a registered nurse is required. Job ResponsibilitiesProvides initial nurse training to public health nurses for STI, TB, and OID services following nurse protocols and nurse policy & procedure manual. Provides general supervision, technical assistance, and consultation to public health nurses with respect to the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of client care plans, following nurse protocols. Provides direct, professional client care while working in health department clinics and in the field where indicated. Floats to all clinics to provide hands-on nursing education, training, audits, and clinical care when indicated. Works closely with Infectious Disease Coordinator and Epidemiology team Makes administrative decisions as needed, communicating with the Infectious Disease Coordinator, Nursing Director, or District Health Director when necessary Works to assist in the development of new audit tools for the STI, TB, and OID programs for quality assurance Performs chart audits and clinical evaluations of nursing staff across STI, TB and OID programs when indicated. Prepares and completes reports and surveillance activities as requested. Works with and supports the Infectious Disease Coordinator to ensure program compliance with state and/or federal guidelines. Serves as a member of the QA/QI committee and participates in monthly meetings and interdisciplinary workgroups to improve internal processes Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation. Utilizes strong computer skills to manage electronic health records and other digital healthcare tools efficiently and effectively. Develops and maintains relationships with community partners, healthcare providers, and other agencies to enhance public health efforts where indicated. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support public health initiatives and improve community health outcomes. Essential Member of Nursing Operations Team during Emergency Preparedness/Disaster/Sheltering. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, three (3) years of nursing experience, and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification. Preferred Qualifications: Public Health experience and protocol training is highly preferred.
