Scientific Program Manager, Science Initiatives The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. The Science Initiatives team drives internal and external activities in parallel to promote the Allen Institute's mission and help accelerate the timeline from science-to-impact. Our team bridges science and administrative functions, working closely with leadership, scientists across the Allen Institute, and key external partners to plan and manage activities in three areas: (1) Science Programs, (2) Scientific Partnerships, and (3) External Affairs. We are seeking a Scientific Program Manager to join our team. This position, reporting to the VP of Science Initiatives, will primarily support a growing portfolio of Institute-wide Science Programs. This includes key roles in managing the existing Allen Institute Next Generation Leaders program and developing new initiatives to promote synergies and consistency across Allen Institute research programs. The successful candidate will possess a strong scientific foundation in cell biology, neuroscience, or immunology. They will be adept at fostering communities and relationships with diverse groups of internal and external partners. They will also have demonstrated progressive abilities and responsibilities as a professional Program and Project Manager. As a leader, collaborator and effective communicator, this role can drive momentum and build consensus, working at the interface of multi-site and multi-disciplinary teams. Essential Functions Establish and lead program management processes to drive cross-departmental communication and facilitate accomplishing ambitious goals Work with Allen Institute leadership on strategic planning and development of annual goals and program portfolios, to meet the Institute's milestones Drive, coordinate, and support programs using project management best practices and tools Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines. Keep project milestones on track, anticipating and communicating at-risk deliverables. Work with team members to identify options and implement mitigation strategies Organize and lead internal and external project meetings with clear agendas, expected outcomes, follow-up on project-related actions and performance tracking metrics Enable communication between project stakeholders. Provide an efficient and flexible collaborative environment to manage internal and external team communication and collaboration Synthesize inputs into clearly written status/progress reports, coordinating information across internal teams and external partners Contribute to the team's fiscal management, including budget planning, resource forecasting, expenditure monitoring Work closely with and manage relationships with Finance, HR, Communications, and other Institute Dept/Group Leaders to oversee the overall portfolio and objectives. Required Education and Experience PhD in biology, immunology, neuroscience, biomedical science, or related fields with demonstrated success working in large and complex scientific projects; Direct experience in a Program/Project Manager role, beyond an academic laboratory setting Preferred Education and Experience 10+ years of experience Formal Project Management training and/or PMP certification Experience in the use of project management, collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting tools A team player and a natural leader with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; able to navigate challenging group dynamics, work effectively across scientific, technical, and business interfaces Proven success in establishing and maintaining external, strategic, scientific, or collaborative relationships, across multiple partner sites Detail-focused and organized, with an understanding that communication and transparency are critical to achieving success Demonstrated ability to work independently, proactively and with agility in a complex, matrixed environment, dealing well with ambiguity, building internal alignment, influencing others, and managing differences effectively Work Environment May enter laboratory environment, including potential exposure to lasers, biohazards Physical Demands Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State. Travel Visits to collaborator sites and attendance at national conferences may be required Additional Comments Please note, this opportunity offers relocation assistancePlease note, this opportunity does not offer work visa sponsorship Annualized Salary Range $137,050 - $171,250Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
