Job ID: 26960 Description The NP functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate standardized procedures (SP). By using the SPs the NP is able to change treatment regimen after observing signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior and physical condition, and determines if they are abnormal findings (California BRN Nursing Practice Act, subsection(b) of Section 2725). Serving as a member Serving as a member of the medical care management team, provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of acute care service to patients who are in house on the solid oncology service. Act as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, fellows, and physicians to provide effective and consistent patient care. Performs daily rounds on assigned solid oncology inpatients to ensure adherence to protocols/orders. Coordinates patient admissions with attendings. Executes chart orders and coordinates consultants. Performs and documents comprehensive history and physical examinations on all assigned inpatients, including documentation of outpatient primary care physician and outpatient primary oncologist. Accurately interprets all diagnostic data and formulates a plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team. Provides appropriate pharmacological management, independent follow-up care, assessment and problem solving. Provides patient education for disease process, pre/post chemotherapy (if indicated) and outcomes. Provides ongoing updates and communication with outpatient oncology attending as well as primary care physician. Assists discharge coordinator in the discharge process. Provides ongoing and up to date education to the nursing team to promote awareness and comprehension around the different oncologic disease states, types of treatments, complexities or treatment regimens, complications and pertinent elements of the plan of care. Optimizes patient outcomes through the integration of performance improvement initiatives and collaboration with the healthcare team, including case management. Dictates consultation notes, discharge summaries, and letters regarding patient care. Screens telephone calls from patients and families regarding care. Participates in lectures, rounds, conferences, and workshops. Assists with the development of research protocols, investigations, and clinical trials. Provides administrative support for physicians and assists with development of critical care pathways and protocols. Develops and implements progressive information technology alternatives in the inpatient setting. The NP will be cross trained between the two inpatient oncology services, Solid Oncology and Heme Malignancies, in Santa Monica. The NP may be asked to cover on the Heme Malignancies service if there is a need. If inpatient census falls below work guidelines, the NP may be asked to work instead in the outpatient Santa Monica hematology/oncology practice. Tasks would be the same, but in the outpatient setting. Salary range: $89.06-$127.19/hourly Qualifications Requirements: Current CPR/BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association-required Current CA RN License-required State of California NP, National Certification (i.e. ANCC) in NP Specialty-required MSN/DNP in Adult Acute Care NP (AG-ACNP) Specialty-required Previous oncology experience -preferred Ability to utilize excel, word and other software programs Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with administrative, clinical and academic personnel Skill in working independently and following through with minimum directions Ability to set priorities Demonstrate writing skills to compose logical, detailed and grammatically correct correspondence Document patient care in an concise and comprehensive manner NP2 : 6+months NP exp NP1: less than 6 months exp- must have relevant oncology RN exp A PASSION FOR ADVANCING NURSING EXCELLENCE At UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Nursing, you’ll be inspired and empowered to reach your fullest potential in your nursing career.
