Senior Network Automation Engineer / SMELocation: Ft. Bragg, NC Clearance: TS/SCI Required Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Network Automation Engineer / Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced network automation solutions in a secure, mission-critical environment. This role requires a seasoned professional with deep expertise in Python scripting, Cisco network architecture, and modern DevOps practices. The ideal candidate will drive automation strategy, mentor engineering teams, and ensure the network infrastructure meets the highest standards of performance, security, and resilience. Key Responsibilities Lead the architecture and development of scalable network automation solutions to support classified DoD environments. Serve as a technical SME for Cisco network technologies, automation frameworks, and integration strategies. Design and implement Python-based automation to standardize configuration management, network orchestration, and provisioning. Champion the adoption of DevOps principles, driving CI/CD integration into network operations. Provide technical leadership during Agile sprints, guiding sprint planning, burn-down tracking, retrospectives, and overall delivery strategy. Utilize Kanban boards and Agile methodologies to prioritize work, ensure transparency, and maintain operational velocity. Oversee GIT-based workflows to manage version control, branching strategies, and secure code contributions. Maintain and expand Autobot as the authoritative source of truth for network configuration and state management. Architect and administer automation using AWX to orchestrate enterprise network operations. Perform advanced network graphing and analytics to drive data-informed engineering decisions. Collaborate with leadership, cybersecurity, and mission partners to align automation strategy with operational objectives and security compliance requirements. Mentor and train mid-level and junior engineers on automation best practices and DevOps adoption. Required Qualifications Active TS/SCI clearance. 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years in automation leadership or SME roles. Expert-level proficiency in Python scripting for network automation. Extensive hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise and data center networking. Proven background applying DevOps methodologies to network operations. Deep familiarity with Kanban, sprints, burn-down metrics, and Agile team leadership. Advanced knowledge of GIT workflows and secure code management practices. Demonstrated experience with Autobot and AWX, or similar orchestration and automation frameworks. Strong architectural mindset with a focus on scalability, security, and compliance in classified environments. Preferred Qualifications CCNP certification or equivalent advanced Cisco certification. Prior experience supporting DoD or other high-side network environments. Proven ability to influence architecture and automation strategies at the enterprise level. Familiarity with network security frameworks and Zero Trust principles.
