Job Overview: Search Solution Group is seeking a Sheet Metal Estimator on behalf of our client, a company specializing in custom metal fabrication and laser cutting services. The Sheet Metal Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for fabricated sheet metal components and assemblies. This role plays a critical part in supporting revenue growth by evaluating manufacturing drawings, materials, labor requirements, and production methods to determine the most cost-effective and profitable manufacturing approach. The Estimator collaborates closely with engineering, production, quality teams, and customers to ensure technical clarity and successful project execution. Key Responsibilities: Review and interpret manufacturing drawings, blueprints, and 3D models to determine project scope and manufacturability. Analyze GD&T requirements and tolerance stack-ups to assess complexity, risk, and cost impact. Develop detailed cost estimates including materials, labor hours, machine time, tooling, finishing, hardware, outside services, and assembly operations. Evaluate alternative production methods to identify efficient and cost-effective manufacturing strategies. Prepare and submit RFQs within required turnaround timelines while maintaining accuracy and margin goals. Communicate directly with customers to clarify specifications and resolve discrepancies. Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to align technical requirements. Identify design risks and recommend manufacturability or cost-saving improvements. Track quote performance, including win/loss trends, to improve estimating accuracy. Maintain organized documentation of estimates, assumptions, and calculations within ERP/MRP systems. Requirements include: Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience. Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of estimating experience in sheet metal manufacturing or a related fabrication environment required. Background in fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing environments preferred. Skills: Strong ability to read and interpret complex manufacturing drawings and technical documentation. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to manage multiple RFQs simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Certifications: Relevant manufacturing or estimating certifications are a plus but not required. Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes including laser cutting, turret punching, forming/bending, welding, hardware insertion, and finishing/coating operations. Knowledge of GD&T principles and tolerance stack-ups. Understanding of material properties and cost drivers in metal manufacturing environments. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, estimating software, and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with manufacturability analysis and cost optimization strategies.
