Alliant Energy is expanding, and were looking for a data-savvy analyst with strong skills in Python, PowerBI, and Excel to join our team. As an Energy Markets Analyst II, youll play a critical role in pipeline scheduling, commodity tracking, revenue reporting, and fuel cost modeling-while driving strategies for storage optimization, transportation, and hedging. This position offers autonomy, complex analytics, and the chance to influence real-time decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. On-call responsibilities are part of the rhythm, so adaptability and curiosity are essential. Performs moderately complex data analysis in support of energy trading activities such as bulk power trading, trade capture operations, congestion hedging, fuel cost hedging, load bidding operations, outage schedule maintenance, fuel forecasting and variance analysis, generation offer operations, and electricity scheduling operations. Schedules gas on the interstate pipelines and monitors system demand to adjust supplies as necessary, including weekend and holiday coverage. Assists in managing nominations, confirmations, imbalances, and other related activities on various natural gas pipelines and storage facilities. Desired experience with any of the following pipelines: Alliance, ANR, Guardian, NGPL, Northern Border and Northern Natural. Maintains a basic understanding of the business of a regulated electric utility, including details of fuel recovery rules in each applicable jurisdiction, Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market rules and processes, market fundamentals and operational considerations, energy portfolios, and bulk power trading rules and processes. Supports established operational processes by documenting, troubleshooting, exploring, and implementing operational process improvements. Offers suggestions for and assists in improving processes and developing new forecasting tools. Provides clear, audience-appropriate written and verbal explanations of forecast components, market conditions, operational issues, and variance analysis. Ensures positions are appropriately reflected and balanced in the trade capture system. Conducts analysis and prepares information for back office and accounting groups to bill counterparties, create financial statements, and respond to moderately complex information requests. Assists in gathering information to respond to annual and supplement data requests or standard reports from regulatory agencies, e.g., state public service commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Tracks and interprets pipeline curtailments and operational issues using pipeline electronic bulletin boards (EBBs) or communicating with pipeline transportation representatives. Relay issues or concerns and advise.
