HR Generalist LHH is partnering with a mission-driven organization in the Washington, DC area to identify an HR Generalist for a long-term, temporary contract. This hybrid opportunity offers 2 days remote and 3 days onsite, with a meaningful chance to support a community-focused team while strengthening core people operations. Location: Washington, DC (hybrid schedule) Compensation: $27$34/hour Duration: Long-term contract engagement This role serves as a key contributor to day-to-day people operations while helping enhance the overall employee experience. The selected professional will partner closely with leadership to ensure smooth internal processes, compliance alignment, and thoughtful employee support initiatives. What You'll Be Involved In Talent Acquisition & Onboarding Partner with team leads to clarify workforce needs and draft role outlines Coordinate candidate flow and support hiring activities Facilitate new team member onboarding, orientation, and documentation Assist in launching a structured internship initiative Employee Support & Engagement Serve as a trusted first point of contact for team inquiries Foster a positive and solutions-focused workplace environment Support resolution of workplace concerns in alignment with internal guidelines People Operations & Compliance Help ensure alignment with applicable employment regulations Maintain accurate team member records within the HR system Assist with preparation of required workforce documentation and reporting Benefits & Vendor Coordination Provide guidance related to health savings accounts, flexible spending programs, and retirement offerings (403(b)) Collaborate with external benefits partners as needed Internal Systems & Process Improvements Reorganize and streamline the organization's SharePoint environment Support transition toward a more user-friendly, self-service resource hub Learning & Development Identify skill-building opportunities Coordinate internal and external training initiatives Support career growth conversations and retention-focused efforts Strategic Collaboration Contribute to refinement of internal people policies and workflows Share insights on engagement trends and workforce planning Assist leadership in strengthening employee satisfaction initiatives Background We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (People Operations, Business, etc.) 25 years of experience supporting workplace operations Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) welcomed but not required Working knowledge of employment regulations and best practices Comfort with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office tools (Paycom exposure helpful) Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, evolving environment Benefit offerings include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, commuter benefits and 401K plan.
