Job Title Safety Harbor, City of (FL) Seasonal Pool Lifeguard General Description and Hiring Rate The hiring rate for this position is $17.50/hr. Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat 9am-7pm, up to 25 hours/week Essential Job Functions Under close supervision of the Recreation Manager, or designee. Performs varied routine duties in assisting the Leisure Services Department. Work is performed with some independence. Work is reviewed through conferences and results obtained. Supervises programmed pool area. Actively guards and scans pool area for dangerous situations and preventable accidents. Recognizes and responds effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Rescue swimmers and administer first aid, as needed. Assist in maintaining aquatic areas clean and free from hazards. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety. Maintain daily logs and records, as required. Maintain daily inspections of facilities and equipment. Performs special assignments and/or other duties as assigned. Evening and/or weekend work will be required. Attend and participate in mandatory in-service trainings. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and equipment. Ability to responsibly oversee the use of a recreational facility. Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with the public. Ability to maintain simple records. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Demonstrated reliability and dependability. Ability to work flexible hours. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Current American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Certification or ability to obtain. 16+ years of age. CPR and First Aid certified or ability to obtain before start date. Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Reaching, bending, and lifting. Use of fingers, use of hands. Sitting, standing, walking, running. Ability to access, input and retrieve information and data from a computer. Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data. Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights. Ability to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time. Must be able to swim 300 yards using front crawl, or breaststroke. Must be able to exit a pool without use of a ladder or steps. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. The City of Safety Harbor is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
