Catholic Charities has an immediate opening for a full time Controller. Under the direction of the Finance Director, the Controller is responsible for assisting in the financial management of Catholic Charities. This position will also oversee and provide leadership to the accounting department. This position is predominantly in-person, requiring regular attendance at our office. While some remote work may be possible, the role necessitates a significant on-site presence to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Oversee and provide leadership to the accounting department to meet the organization's financial cycle, including budgets, audits, monthly financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant/contract reporting. 2. Coordinate reporting to outside funders. 3. Serve on appropriate committees and attend managerial level meetings and trainings. 4. Serve as a backup to the Finance Director for Board and Committee reporting. Professional Operations - Finance 1. Maintains accounting systems and develops improvements and enhancements to systems and their related policies and procedures, including those for contributions, program revenue, payroll, expense management and fixed assets. 2. Review all contracts with revenue and expense contracts to ensure proper accounting of and compliance with provisions in contracts. 3. Review all statement of financial position (Balance Sheet) account reconciliations. 4. Guide and lead the accountants on proper GAAP application and company policy to ensure proper recording, reporting and reconciliation of revenues and expenses. 5. Coordinates monthly financial reporting to managers and leadership team. 6. Coordinates external financial reporting to funders and governmental agencies. 7. Assist the Finance Director with oversight of Accounting Policy and Procedures, to ensure strong internal controls. 8. Assist the Finance Director with annual audits and ensures the PBC list (audit requests) are completed in timely and accurate manner and builds strong working relationship with auditors by providing exceptional support. 9. Ensures organizational compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements. Qualifications • Accounting BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university. CPA is preferred. • At minimum, seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience, including prior experience managing an accounting department, is required. • Must have project accounting and indirect allocation experience. • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and Not For Profit accounting. • Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel, and fund accounting software. Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Raiser's Edge NXT a plus. • Ability to identify and implement process improvements is required. • Ability to direct the creation of clear and concise financial reports to aid the organization's functioning, relying on a strong analytical background. • Experience in a nonprofit with multiple service programs is highly preferred. • Experience with supervising, mentoring, and training others. • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills with an awareness of self, and emotional intelligence to assess and manage personality differences. • Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance colleagues, building strong working relationships with the management team. • Ability to establish and maintain an effective system for organizing multiple projects, requests, deadlines, emails, and paper streams. • Ethical decision making and commitment to compliance with regulations and company policy. • Strategic, progressive, innovative financial visionary, with the ability to execute pragmatically.
