Job Summary The Bioinformatician will provide high level professional and technical skills in support of systems development, analyzing large datasets, using computational tools to solve problems in healthcare, clinical care, or research with responsibilities including algorithm design, data management, computational programing, statistical analysis, and change management Responsibilities • Designing and applying algorithms and databases • Designing and implementing tools to evaluate data and patient care • Using statistical methods • Programming statistical models • Managing and storing complex data • Managing data generated by patient care • Being knowledgeable in medical coding • Maintaining information security • Ensuring patient data is integrated and accessible • Analyzing large data sets • Analyzing data to inform facility level decisions • Analyzing data to improve patient care • Analyzing data to reduce costs • Communicating with healthcare professionals to improve data generation • Interpreting results and presenting findings to researchers and clinicians Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned. Education • Master's Degree (Required) Minimum Requirements: A master's level degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience may meet this requirement. Preferred: A doctorate in informatics with background in computer science, including writing code for data analysis, statistics, machine learning, data processing and visualization, and competency in verbal and written communication.
