Employee will be assigned to the Division of Mining and Reclamation, Inspection and Enforcement section. Duties Include: Performs technical and field inspections of regulated sites to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and permit conditions in Boone, Kanawha, Lincoln, Wayne, and Wyoming counties (subject to change without notice). Has the authority to issue notices of violations and cessation orders, initiate civil or administrative proceedings, and pursue criminal prosecution according to established procedures. Conducts complaint investigations related to the position. Requires travel and outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including walking over rugged terrain. May be subject to emergency response, on-call duties, and temporary assignments in different geographic areas as needed. Timely submission of documents and required paperwork is essential. Must participate in quarterly helicopter over-flights of assigned areas. Performs other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Qualifications: Knowledge of state and federal environmental protection laws and regulations related to surface mining or underground mining effects. Residency within the assigned geographical area. Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid driver's license. Strong oral and written communication skills for interactions with the public and private sector. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Notes: Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.
