We're seeking a Clinician Charge for the Cardiology Stepdown department responsible for being a capable clinician charge who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population and routinely uses acquired knowledge, theory, research and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations. This RN professional can apply the Synergy Model for Care in practice and use this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family while serving as a resource to colleagues and strong advocate for them. Responsibilities include: Coordinating and directing the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit. Supervising staff and facilitating communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal patient and family-centered care. Being recognized as a change agent and routinely leading efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support the mission, vision, and values of the department. Demonstrating insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking. Role modeling expert communication skills to colleagues through example. Demonstrating foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience. Being recognized as an expert clinician and a leader within their area of specialty. Completing employee conference, risk management and unit management reports within specified time frames. Identifying the need for revision and evaluating the effectiveness of operational forms. Providing and coordinating the resources needed within the unit to provide optimal patient outcomes. Role modeling time management skills through example. Ensuring compliance and adherence with stated policies and procedures for the unit. Remaining informed of innovative clinical trends through benchmarking and evidence-based practice. Functioning as charge nurse. Role modeling delegation skills to colleagues and assist them in effective delegation utilizing the Synergy model for care. Being considered an expert and is viewed as a formal leader. Mentoring other Registered Nurses to the role and functions of Charge Nurse. Evaluating the use of resources and cost containment activities. Leading and coordinating team behavior between staff members and actively fostering the development of leadership skills in others. Exhibiting desire to hear and understand another's point of view. Demonstrating and role modeling effective communication skills. Taking a leadership role in building and maintaining an environment which fosters open and candid communication. Serving as an arbitrator in resolution of conflicts between nursing staff. Taking appropriate action to correct unacceptable communication/behavior as needed. Taking appropriate action to counsel employees (i.e., verbal warnings for attendance & performance issues). Coordinating unit staffing to meet the needs of the department. Identifying one managerial problem and initiating test of change. Actively participating in preparation of regulatory agency reviews. Assisting in administrative activities such as budget planning, identifying means of cost containment, coordinating unit staffing schedules, and ensuring communication regarding areas of concern to the Unit Director. Providing direction and guidance to less experienced staff concerning policies, scheduling, assignments, organizational skills and daily operations. Evaluating the impact of policies on daily operations. Supporting administrative decisions and facilitating daily operational issues with the staff. Challenging and shaping systems on the unit and hospital wide to achieve best possible outcomes. Being aware of and supporting units and colleagues needs through supportive and non-judgmental behaviors. Actively empowering and advocating for nurses. Implementing innovative approaches to meet the needs of patients and families. Identifying, recognizing and responding to the needs of unit staff to ensure that staff has the resources and tools available to meet patient and family needs. Taking appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints (i.e., appropriate follow-up with Unit Director and risk management). Addressing escalated patient issues and referring issues to Unit Director or Patient Advocate when unable to resolve. Monitoring issues and their resolution. Identifying, initiating, and collaborating to provide needed educational programs. Developing management/ leadership focused in-service (e.g., time management, team building, conflict resolution, budget, leadership activities). Demonstrating current evidence-based practice and disseminating information. Ensuring compliance with educational requirements through scheduling, planning, and support. Questioning management practice as it relates to research. Completing performance reviews with Nurse Manager input as appropriate. Incorporating Synergy model for care in nurse/patient assignments. Meeting all Clinical Nurse I Employee Commitments. Achieving points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain position. Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 2 years of recent nursing experience AND a minimum of 2 years of experience in the area of concentration. A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing. BLS certification. ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire. Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty. Must meet all Clinical Nurse Employee Commitments. Achieve electives/points and contact hours as defined in the PLAN (clinical lattice) point system to maintain position. Must complete UCN/SNM criteria requirements within nine (9) months of promotion or hire, including completion of Enhancing your Communication HLC#6488, completion of formal preceptor training workshop and enrollment in LEAP course.
