Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY The Athletic Trainer acts as a representative of Mount Nittany Health (MNH) to provide athletic training services for MNH contracted organizations and provides clinical support at various locations throughout MNH. The Athletic Trainer encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Work is typically performed in various settings including secondary schools, physical rehabilitation clinic, physician offices and community centers. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field required. Experience: Two years of athletic training experience in interscholastic athletic setting preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of the athletic training principles and skills needed to provide quality patient care and treatment. Knowledge of normal anatomy and medical terminology. Knowledge of physiological demand and response to exercise. Knowledge of legal requirements and rules of the athletic/community events. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions of the provider. Must be able to react calmly and effectively during emergency situations. Must have the ability to identify and analyze problems, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision. Knowledge of basic office and clinical operations. License/Certification/Registration: Certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC). Licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. Valid Driver's license. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Practice Manager. SUPERVISION GIVEN None ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides athletic training services during pre-season, practices, events, and community events, under the direction and supervision of the Sports Medicine Director, to include but not limited to, injury assessment, injury rehabilitation, and on-field first aid management. Develops and executes strength training, conditioning and nutrition consultation information for contracted organizations and MNH. Supervises athletic training student opportunities through MNH and/or contracted organizations. Assists with inventory, budget, and ordering of medical supplies and items necessary for athletic training services. Assists with coordination and implementation of neurocognitive baseline testing with the support of supervising physician and or necessary personnel from contracted organizations. Assists in the development of clinical protocols. Applies protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, braces, bandages and orthotic equipment as needed. Administers prescribed treatments and recommendations by supervising physician. Fulfills in-clinic duties, as assigned, to optimize patient care.
