Job Summary: Under the general supervision and guidance of the staff pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician performs essential pharmacy-related duties following departmental policies to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care. Essential Responsibilities: Delivers medications promptly to nursing units and returns items as needed, completing rounds efficiently and ensuring proper storage of refrigerated items. Maintains and stocks unit-based automated dispensing cabinets accurately, ensuring correct medication placement, counts, and expiration tracking. Performs aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and sterile dosage forms, adhering to proper techniques and quality control documentation. Processes floor stock and requisitions for nursing and ancillary units, maintaining logs and managing stock levels, including removal of outdated items. Handles controlled substances with care, preparing proof-of-use sheets, restocking, maintaining counts, and disposing of expired substances according to regulations. Assists pharmacists with order entry, medication labeling, and customer service, including answering calls and resolving issues or escalating as needed. Restocks anesthesia dispensing cabinets, trays, and kits, ensuring accurate documentation and inventory management. Packages bulk medications properly, maintaining controlled substance logs and submitting products for pharmacist verification before stocking. Performs miscellaneous duties following hospital and departmental policies, exercising sound judgment and effective time management. Supplemental Responsibilities: Supports other technician staff during low staffing periods within training limits. Answers telephone promptly with a customer-friendly approach, referring calls outside scope to pharmacists. Manages multiple priorities effectively and assists in training new employees and students. Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to dress code standards. Follows hospital and departmental procedures and projects a professional image. National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Minimum of one year hospital-based pharmacy experience. Maintains qualifications consistent with Technician II level. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Working Conditions: Requires independent decision-making and the ability to respond effectively under pressure. Must prioritize responsibilities and coordinate with coworkers. Standing and walking required during shifts. Compliance with OSHA bloodborne pathogen risk classifications applies. Shift: Night shift, full-time, approximately 38.5 hours per week. Location: Regional healthcare facility in the Midwest United States.
