Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to lead and support nursing staff in delivering exceptional, safe, and high-quality patient care within an emergency department setting. This leadership role requires a blend of clinical expertise, interpersonal skills, and the ability to foster a positive work environment while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to unit-based safety and infection control protocols. Engage with patients and families to uphold service excellence standards and address any concerns to enhance patient satisfaction. Communicate effectively and professionally, providing conflict resolution when necessary. Participate in nursing and organizational policy development, promoting shared accountability for nursing practice and evidence-based care. Assume accountability for unit services, meeting goals related to quality, operations, finance, and compliance. Advocate for patients by coordinating nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and integrating services across the care continuum. Collaborate with various departments to improve workflow, patient flow, and throughput. Assist in recruitment, selection, and retention of nursing personnel, addressing ethical issues and ensuring adherence to standards of care. Manage staffing and unit schedules, ensuring appropriate personnel utilization based on competencies and patient needs. Lead or participate in quality improvement projects and attend relevant committees. Evaluate staff performance, provide feedback, coaching, and conduct appraisals as needed. Contribute to budget development and monitor productivity standards within the area of responsibility. Promote a work environment that minimizes occupational illness and injury. Commit to ongoing professional growth and development. Demonstrate ability to pronounce expired patients and perform administrative supervisory duties as required. Qualifications Minimum of five years as a Registered Nurse, including at least two years in acute care or a similar setting. At least one year of recent charge nurse or supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of nursing scope of practice, nursing process, and individualized patient care plans. Ability to independently seek resources and collaborate effectively. Competent in assessing nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Proficient with computers and adaptable to new software. Capable of providing direct patient care. Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (A.D.N.) with seven years of RN experience may be considered in lieu of BSN. Licenses and Certifications Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of California required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. National certification in specialty area preferred. Additional certifications required depending on unit assignment, including but not limited to: ONS chemotherapy & biotherapy provider, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale, PALS, NVCI, and MICN. Additional Requirements Successful candidates must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen, and pre-employment background checks prior to starting work. This position is based in a regional healthcare facility serving the Pacific Northwest coastal communities and surrounding areas.
