About the City Woodinville, Washington is a premier tourist destination with a population of about 14,000, though the City will likely grow rapidly over the next five years or so. This growth is resulting in lots of exciting projects and programs. Located about 20 miles northeast of Seattle, Woodinville offers the benefits of a bustling urban area against the backdrop of the picturesque Sammamish River Valley. Woodinville is known for its tourism industries with over 130 wineries, breweries, and distilleries and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities. The City of Woodinville is currently recruiting for six Seasonal Maintenance Workers. The Seasonal Maintenance Worker positions will work up to five months duration, typically Monday through Friday. Occasionally, the positions may be required to work outside of typical hours, including weekends and/or evenings. The work will primarily consist of routine tasks such as removal of brush and debris from park grounds, stormwater facilities, open space, and public rights-of-way, weeding, raking, watering vegetation, mowing, edging, shoveling, and light construction, repair, and facility maintenance duties. The most qualified candidates will be able to use a variety of tools and equipment and have a working knowledge of maintenance and operations gained through experience and/or education. The candidates will be required to assist staff in performing regular, routine, and semi-skilled maintenance tasks within City owned facilities and public rights-of-way. As the Laborer II you will Performs routine tasks, such as weeding, raking, watering, mowing, edging, shoveling, field preparation, custodial duties, and litter pick-up. Performs light construction, repair, landscaping, and facility maintenance duties as assigned. Cleans and repairs trails, sidewalks, streets, playgrounds, play equipment, grounds, buildings, fences, and other public-owned assets. Performs minor and semi-skilled facility maintenance operations, such as replacing drive belts and mower blades, unplugging toilets, and changing light bulbs and filters. Conducts removal of brush and debris from park grounds, open spaces, storm water facilities, and public rights-of-way. Work with temporary workers, contract labor, and other seasonal employees to ensure that City standards are met in maintenance and operations tasks. Reports needed repairs, safety hazards, or other conditions that could affect staff or the public's health, safety, security, or energy conservation to immediate supervisor. Provides support activities for a variety of community special events, including but not limited to supporting the event management team, traffic control, site preparation, and site clean-up. Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, parts, and supplies as required. Responds to the daily needs of building, park, and field users. Skills and Behaviors for success Operate a variety of motor vehicles, including pick-up trucks, flatbeds, medium-size dump trucks, towing trailers, and medium sized riding mowers. Operate small engine equipment, such as small mowers, line trimmers, chainsaws, and leaf blowers in a safe manner. Perform basic and semi-skilled mechanical tasks. Lift up to 50 pounds. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma AND Two years of relevant experience AND Must possess a Washington State driver's license, OR In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Preferred Qualifications Flagger Certification Commercial Driver's License City or local government Maintenance, Parks or Storm Water experience Physical Requirements Work is primarily performed outdoors. Outside work will require exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions. Must frequently stand, walk, talk or hear, taste or smell, grip or feel with hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and lift objects up to 25 pounds; and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift objects up to and exceeding 100 pounds. Work environment has exposure to outdoor environment, noise, extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, fumes, gases, poor ventilation, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, and sharp objects/tool. Necessary aptitudes include perception of detail, finger and manual dexterity, eye/hand/foot coordination requiring close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships). May occasionally require work beyond normal working hours. Compensation, Classification and Labor Representation The full salary range for this position is step # 1, $25.96 per hour to step # 5, $30.37 per hour. The appointment will typically be made between step # 1, $25.96 per hour to step # 3, $28.08 per hour. This position is eligible for overtime and is non-represented.
