Cedar Falls Recreation Center Summer Aquatic Positions The Cedar Falls Recreation Division is hiring aquatic staff for the 2026 summer season. Expected employment will be May 17 - August 24 with additional pre- and post-season hours available. Positions vary and hourly wages will range from $11.50-15.60 based on position, qualifications, and experience. Expected hourly wage by position: Head Guards $13.65-15.60 Lifeguards $13.50-14.50 Instructors $13.00-14.00 Instructor Aides $11.50-13.25 Concession Workers $11.50-13.25 Cashiers $12.00-14.00 Maintenance $13.00-15.00 Expected summer work schedule: Instructors & Aides: Indoor Lessons: 8:30 am–Noon & 4:40–6:15 pm (up to 30 hours/week during lessons) Outdoor Lessons: 8:20–11:00 am (up to 13.75 hours/week during lessons) Instructors/Aides have the ability to pick up substitute guarding hours also. Lifeguard, Cashier & Concessions: Noon–8:00 pm working 8 of 14 days (35-45 hours/week weather & rotation permitting) Maintenance: Hours vary Minimum requirements for swimming-related positions: Lifeguard Certification & CPR, First Aid, AED; non-swimming: CPR & First Aid. The Cedar Falls Recreation Center, UNI Wellness Center and the Black Hawk County YMCA all offer Lifeguarding certification courses. Please call the respective locations for more information. Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen required for all positions.
