Position Overview The Field Engineer is a critical member of our growing Engineering department at GRA Design Studio, responsible for performing detailed on-site investigations that support project feasibility, engineering decisions, and design development. This role focuses primarily on conducting MEP-focused engineering site surveys, capturing existing conditions, and identifying system-related constraints. The Field Engineer will also support due diligence analysis based on field observations and assist with production work as needed to ensure project continuity and team flexibility. Key Responsibilities MEP-Focused Site Surveys & Field Assessments Conduct thorough on-site MEP field surveys, documenting existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and related building systems. Capture accurate measurements, field notes, and photographic documentation to support engineering and architectural teams. Identify system deficiencies, capacity considerations, code-related issues, and potential design or construction challenges. Coordinate site access, interact with building personnel, and ensure all field data is collected safely and efficiently. Due Diligence & Analysis Perform due diligence evaluations informed by on-site observations, focusing on system conditions, risks, and feasibility. Prepare clear and concise due diligence reports summarizing findings, system impacts, and recommendations. Assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and standards related to MEP systems and existing building conditions. Communicate findings to internal engineering and design teams to support scoping, planning, and decision-making. Production & Project Support Drafting, documentation updates, and production tasks in AutoCAD, Revit, and other software. Incorporate field findings into engineering drawings, coordination sets, and project documents. Support engineers and architects with redlines, revisions, and project coordination. Provide flexibility across fieldwork, analysis, and production based on project workload and departmental needs. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field preferred. 1-3 years of experience in field engineering, MEP surveys, construction, or similar technical roles. Working knowledge of building MEP systems, existing facility evaluations, and construction processes. Proficiency with field equipment, digital measuring tools, and drafting platforms (AutoCAD required; Revit a plus). Strong documentation skills and attention to detail in fast-paced field environments. Ability to work independently at job sites and collaborate effectively with engineering, architectural, and project management teams. Clear communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
