Title: Process Engineer Job Number: 000909 Location: Carmel, IN Compensation: $75,000-$90,000/year DOE Hours: Full-time, flexible schedule Employment Type: Exempt (no remote work) Company Overview A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Process Engineer to join its Production Engineering team. This position plays a key role in improving manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost performance through process optimization and technical problem-solving. Position Summary The Process Engineer provides engineering support for production operations, focusing on process design, equipment and tooling development, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves analyzing, organizing, and enhancing production methods to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing performance. Key Responsibilities Develop, organize, and optimize manufacturing processes, including method studies, process layouts, and man-hour calculations. Plan and implement process analysis and improvement activities to increase workability, efficiency, and productivity. Conduct process audits and support compliance with internal standards and customer requirements. Review and define specifications for equipment, tools, and molds; manage project schedules and vendor coordination. Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations for equipment and tooling, including price and technical capability assessments. Support the creation of prototypes and event samples for customers. Analyze downtime, identify root causes, and implement countermeasures to improve equipment and process reliability. Investigate scrap and defect causes; plan and execute corrective and preventive actions. Support process start-ups at suppliers and coordinate technical requirements. Prepare and present weekly progress and result reports to management. Complete special assignments and improvement projects as requested. Qualifications Required: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail. Proficiency in process optimization, data collection, and technical documentation. Solid understanding of production engineering, tooling, equipment, and material flow. Strong computer and mathematical skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Preferred: Experience in automotive manufacturing or a similar high-volume production environment. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or Six Sigma methodologies. Familiarity with air, electric, and hydraulic systems. Experience with fixture or mold (die) specification and vendor negotiation. Basic knowledge of robot programming. Minimal travel required (occasional local day trips).
